Posted - May 04 2009 : 06:52:34 AM Saturday we had a severe thunderstorm. Now we have had thunderstorms before with hail and lots of rain but this was very unusual and rare for our area. Happened about 4 pm. Thunder and lightening started and then the rain came and I thought ok we will have a good "soaker", but then the wind picked up - 50+ mile an hour gusts and 1/2" hail - I almost thought we had a tornado because it came so fast and furious and then stop about as fast as it started. The rain was blowing sideways and I thought for sure the neighbor's 60+ foot fir tree was going to snap because it was blowing over so far - but no damage. Unfortunately there was one death in Portland when someone hit a tree that had fallen. We are in for another heavy rain storm, but nothing like we saw on Saturday.
