Well the snow has melted for the most part. But there was so much damage to big trees! The snow was heavy and wet and with the leaves still on the trees- the snow had a harder time slipping off. Instead, the branches bowed and broke. There are huge piles of fallen limbs in most every lawn. My across the street neighbor has a pile about as big as a Suburban, and I have seen whole trees knocked down.

Those pics on the blog are amazing. I am not looking forward to it. I love the seasons but the snow.., I could do without! We get a lot of lake effect snow here but I'm sure nothing like whatcha'll get out west. In Ohio t gets really damp and wet/cold. Today its 80 degrees and I have all the windows open and I'm eating ice cream which I will have to journal for my badge...oops!
Alee: yeah, your house should be warmer with the snow. It is an insulator which is why people dig holes in it when they are lost hiking. Take care out there!

we got an inch and a half in Boise and set a new record for the earliets snow fall in this area for the year, however I missed it as I was in Moscow, ID visiting my oldest who abandoned me for college, hmmmm....actually really,I'm ok, she is doing what she was raised to do, make her own noise....and jeez the youngest is getting ready to go there herself. That will leave me and the ol' man all alone....ok with dogs, cats, goats, soon chickens......

LOL Sounds good!

I swear the house is warmer now that the snow has fallen. I think the snow is insulating all the holes in our foundation!

OMG....I'm still running my ac and the leaves are just starting to turn here! After reading all the posts though I cooled off and turned down the ac...so it had an affect on me. Now that I am "retired" I LOVE the snow! Always did just dreaded some of those drives home from work...I commuted for years from out in the country...treacherous at times! But I miss it and the grandkids so that's why my house is for sale but it will probably take 3 years to sell it! LOL! Alee, I heard on t.v. that you all got 2 feet of snow! They even had pictures on the news! Stay warm all of you!

We are having a perfect fall. Problem is, I don't have time to get out and enjoy it. Always something needs done. Two or three trips to town every week it seems. Take Ole Ron to the Dr at least once a week sometimes 2 or 3. Then there is all this canning. What is with my tomatoes? Canned more tom juice yesterday. Found a huge tomato plant out in the middle of the asparagus patch this a.m. It has bunches of really big green tomatoes on it. I may have to cover it when that first frost comes. Not for the next 7 days though, according to forcast.

When the snow comes, I'll be ready for it. Don't mind driving in snow. It is the ice that is the biggest problem. We get more ice than snow.

Hi Madelynne-

All safe here on the Southern (Billings) Front. Lots of neighbors are having to clear away massive tree limbs and a tree broke in my parent's yard in Wyoming. Luckily the huge tree in our back yard has been fine so far.

Alee the snow made it here last night. We woke to about 4 in on the ground and it's still coming down. It rained/snowed mix all day so we just sat around and were lazy. Today I think Ben is going up to the shop and I may clean. Gotta do something!
If this keeps up much more, we may have to start feeding the cows... I hope not.... They are still way north, tho they'll come down on their own..

BTW, did you get my ornament yet??

Wow! you ladies wouldn't believe it- and my camera is broken so I can't show It is October 12th and we probably have a good 10 inches of snow on the ground!!! Between the snow cap on top of the car, and the snow on the ground, I can only see about 4 inches of my car's paint! I just stepped out side to measure the snow! Wow! 10 inches!! And it is still coming down!!

Well our yard has about 6 inches of snow. Luckily we haven't lost power. I am not sure if our furnace would stay lit or not, thought I suppose it would since I know I have turned the power main off and they stayed lit all through the summer.

Burrrr! I am reading your post and already dreading the ice and snow. We had a beautiful day here in Missouri, sunny with a light breeze and in the uppers 70s. The leaves are turning and I wore short sleeves as I scoured wool and picked up walnuts today. I know snow and ice are going to be at our door knocking soon and after reading about the cold temps and snow...I better get the house winterized. The old timers are saying we are going to have a very rough winter because the nut trees are loaded. Also the persimmons are getting ripe and one of the gals told me that they looked inside the seed of one and it was double spoons.

Alee, we lost power earlier today. A lot of tree limbs have fallen down on the lines and streets up here. We decided to take a ride instead of just waiting for the power to come on. The power came on as we left but we still decided to take a chance and go out and see the snow. Had fun. John's Jeep is totally covered in mud.

It is starting to get really cold here in the evenings, I wore a hoodie sweatshirt over my nightie last night, three quilts and a few cat hot pads always help. Unfortunately I knocke d the whole storm window off my bedroom window ( this is when i rescued a kitty from the porch roof.) I'm just too frigging old to climb out on the roof and fix it. I'm hoping to get my son out here for a few hours to give me a hand with all the winter preparations.I too am making window coverings, even if you just make light colored ones it helps to reflect the heat back into the house. There are an awful lot of windows in this house....I'm really enjoying the spectacle of the leaves, they are so lovely this year...

We definitely haven't had any snow lately. The other day there was buckets of rain, but for the most part this week has been really nice. This morning the ground was icy and slippery though. I expect it will be very old here by Halloween.

*cries* We didn't get any snow here in Coeur d'Alene!!! My *cough* LAZY *cough* husband hasn't finished our chicken coop!! It was 25 degrees last night! I packed the girls into the coop with a ceramic heat emitter and blocked off the holes where the windows and doors are going to be. Thankfully they were cozy warm this morning.

Maybe if it snows it'll get his rear in gear.

Or maybe I should just put them in his room :-P
