Posted - Nov 30 2007 : 9:31:10 PM The kids and I went to the next town go to "big" grocery shopping this afternoon and it was drizzling rain when we went in the store and snowing big time when we came out...it has snowed non stop since then...I am glad we are all stocked up..I have plans to stay home and work on Christmas gifts by the warmth of my woodstove tomorrow. I feel sorta bad for husband..he has to go to work for the morning..he will be off at 1pm...the rest of us are going to be planted. Looks like Mona is finally in heat..so I may be spending time outside with the AI guy getting her "in a family way!" I hope that works out since I don't want her to go any later before being bred..as it is she won't calf until early SEpt. next year. Anyway..I hope however your weather is this weekend that all you farmgirls have a great weekend!!

Posted - Dec 02 2007 : 3:53:46 PM We had snow all day today too, but it was only a covering in the end. It was so pretty and makes it seem more like Christmas now. I love it. |

Posted - Dec 02 2007 : 1:37:16 PM It stopped here finally last night, and was just beautiful outside when I milked Mona about 10pm...but this morning my car doors were frozen shut...we were late to church cuz we were busy getting the car scraped off and opened up to get there..haha Wow..you sure got it different than us, Shari...ours was a gradual buildup and then big old flakes for hours and hours. It is still on the ground and pretty out back where it hasn't been walked on yet. BUT...I was releived to let the kids do the feeding chores this morning..I get my turn tonight...and then milking. It is still really cold. Looks like no more snow predicted during the week though. We never lost power this storm, which is unusual when we have lots of wet heavy snow like this!

Posted - Dec 02 2007 : 10:58:43 AM Wow! We had some snow that didn't stick yesterday in Enterprise. We were there helping with the Senior Citizen Center Christmas Bazaar.
On the way home (17 miles north) I told Bev... that sky looks really bad... I mean really, really bad.
We no sooner got out of the truck, and grabbed stuff to go into the house, when it started to rain.
By the time I told Cindy we should feed the animals before it got any worse, the wind was picking up.
I hustled my butt out (coat on, mesh-back IFA cap on, gloves and headband in my pockets), started to load up the chicken feed... got banged on the head when the bin door was blown towards me. I barely got into the chicken coop when the wind got ferocious... and all of a sudden, the rain became sleet... and then snow.
Cindy came out headed for the horses... already the snow was sticking to the ground.
By the time I got to the sheep, I couldn't see the stable, we'd gone into whiteout. I battled the snow and wind to get the sheep their alfalfa. Fortunately, their water trough was still full from all the previous night's rain.
I retreated to the chicken coop to watch for Cindy. After about 10 minutes, Bev came out looking for us, thinking we may need to run a long rope just to find our way from place to place.
It snowed like that for about 2 hours... we have beautiful 3 to 4 inches of snow.
Wouldn't ya' know it... I was the only one still in my boots, when Cindy announced she wanted pictures of the Christmas lights in the snow... Yes, I won the duty... go get the pictures.
You can view them on her blog... http://dhaenterprises.com/CountryMusings
I'll get my blog caught up shortly.

Posted - Dec 01 2007 : 4:02:10 PM It is REALLY coming down now...big heavy wet flakes...I hope the power stays on!! Seems like this sort of snow is what knocks it out most often in winter..heavy snow on the lines I guess. It has been such a cozy day!!!

Posted - Dec 01 2007 : 11:09:09 AM Still snowing today..and more to come it looks like...really really wet heavy snow though..almost too wet for snowman building. Michele...Mona went in heat on her own..but the AI guy..who did come out and inseminate her this morning said he is thinking it may be a day late..so we are counting up and having him come out again in 17 to 21 days...watching her like a hawk so she will get bred a second time to make sure.

Posted - Dec 01 2007 : 04:39:40 AM Snow certainly puts a person in the Christmas spirit. Enjoy yours, ours is supposed to start today. Did Mona come in heat on her own, or did she require the shot you had talked about? Sure hope she 'sticks' the first time around. Think heifer thoughts !!!
