                | farmgirlnextdoor | Posted - Apr 23 2020 : 1:26:38 PM Hello! My name is Sandy and I'm a brand new Farmgirl Sister living in the Lone Star State. I am working on several merit badges to learn how to be more self-sufficient. I would like to decrease my dependency on stores! I currently live in an apartment while I look for a few acres for backyard farming.

Sandy, I think the emergency preparedness is such a good one. Right now with everything that is going on, it really reminds us of the importance of being ready when bad things happen. I wish I had been a little bit more prepared. Good luck with all the badges. You are going to do great.

 Krista,
I wish I had been a little more prepared too. I am a little worried that the stores will not restock and I will be forever behind. Thank you for the encouragement on the badges. I'm very excited about them.

Checking in from Texas too. I am hoping to work on some merit badges - just need to decide which ones to focus on first. I have baked my first loaf of sour dough bread and have some containers planted this spring.

 Glad to see you here,

 Laura,
I'm a little intimidated by gardening. I wish that is something I had planned for this year.

 Sandy,
If you are looking for good laying hens might I suggest Black Sex Link or Rhode Island Reds. They are excellent layers, even in the winter. I'm sure there are others but these are the ones we have have been fortunate with.

Hi Sandy and welcome to MJF---a wonderful place full of super ladies for sure, they are all amazing for sure and I hope you do good on your badges. I never try for badges---as I am an old and jaded farm woman who knows my limits for sure. My home ec teacher hated me and I walked many laps in gym class. So====I know my limits. You go girl and leave us all in awe! I live in wild wonderful West Virginia---and those of us who aren't big rednecks rock for sure. LOL.

Welcome Sandy! So glad to have you join us! I have been feeling the same way lately. I’m ready to have my own things instead of going to stores. We recently bought our land and are just working on getting everything in order. It sure takes a lot of time. Which badges are you starting with? Hope to see you around the forum!

Krista, I'm starting with Blogging, Going Green, Get It Together, Emergency Preparedness, and Knitting if my supplies ever show up. Package got lost in the mail! I need to work on Get It Together because I do not have a proper kitchen for cooking from scratch.
