Hi All, Glad to have you all around for the help I suspect I am going to need in the future. We have owned our farm for 8 years but just in the past year have gotten things up and running. We've demolished fences and sheds and built new, remodeled the barn and the chicken coop, enlarged the vegetable garden by 3 times, planted a dozen blackberry bushes and a strawberry patch.....whew! We are in the process of planting 100 blueberry bushes. 3 horses, 1 pony, 18 ducks, 12 chickens, 2 bee hives later....and this place is amazing....so full of life and never-ending projects. This year we begin breeding fainting goats and guinea hens and enlarging our bee population. So, I am sure I will have lots of questions that you all can help me with! It is so close to Spring in PA....cannot wait to watch life take over once again!

Keep Smiling.....Bev

Welcome Kaylyn! I love Chicago....may favorite City in the USA!
It is only in the past few years that the whole farm thing has become a reality for me....however, I have always been a pioneer at heart. Keep the country in your heart!

Hi, Bev!

I'm a "newby" myself and since I live in the suburbs of Chicago, I have no "farm wisdom" to pass on. I think all of your farm projects are just *fabulously interesting* though...I can't wait to see many of your postings What I really wanted to tell you: Your moniker really captured my attention - I absolutely *love* it for its fun-loving spirit! Hope you find as much welcome and fun in these forums as I am. ~ Kaylyn (Vintage Redhead)

Lewisburg is just a short hop away from our farm. Nice campus! We've been there for sporting events...my kids are just graduating from college..... We love it in Juniata County!

Hey Bev. Greetings from eastern PA. My husband graduated from Bucknell and we are in the Lewisburg area several times a year. Your part of the state is truly wonderful.

Yes, Bev, my farm is also called 'Bee Haven'. This is because of the great lengths I went to to not disturb the wild bees living in the walls of our old farmhouse while we did demolition inside. Unfortunately, over time, they seem to have swarmed and moved on. I'm very sorry you lost your bees. I've read recently about bees just disappearing from hives and nobody seems to know why or what is happening. Once we move to our property(this is the target year), beekeeping is the first thing on my list. Bees and the thousands and thousands of daylily varieties we've planted over the years. At some point, we would like to have a commercial daylily farm. I'm sure I'll 'bee' seeking your advice and wisdom!

Hello Mis Bee Haven! is your farm named Bee Haven too??? We had a bit of a bee tragedy....our hives perished in the bitter cold we had here in PA over the past month......so very sad. But we will try again this coming year....so far we have had none of our own honey to harvest. We could have last year but decided to leave the extra for the hive to utilize over the winter....now I wish we could have at least tried some. Oh welll......we'll keep trying. Glad to find a Bee Haven sister!!

Keep Smiling.....Bev

Hi Beverly! I have a 'Bee Haven' sister! How fantastic! It's great to meet you! I started out with wild honeybees living in the walls of my old farmhouse, and someday(hopefully very soon), I want to have hives of my own. I'll be looking to you for advice. Welcome to this forum. I think we have a lot in common. I'm a few years over fifty, and I'm just 'buying the farm', myself. It's NEVER too late!
