Hi from Mercer County New Jersey

I'm new here so forgive any cyber social mistakes. I have a small farm with lots of sweet animals. I have chickens, 2 call ducks, guinea hens, 4 nigerian goats, mini donkeys, a jersey cow and a couple of horses. I'm learning by the seat of my overalls. (Hee hee.) I'm finding that I'm happiest when I'm outside working along side the animals. Who knew that such a simple life could bring such joy. And this simple life becomes so complicated when you find out all the very interesting things there are to do.

So, farmgirls,I'm starting a 4-H club as they are not very active in my county. My goal is to bring the 4-H clubs back to my area. Any 4-H fans? Any suggestions, advice or comments. Please wish me luck as I am trying my best. I did invest in a button from the 4-H catalog that reads, "Don't Yell at Me, I'm a Volunteer." Probably the best investment yet. :)

And a big hearty Hello to my new friend who told me about this site. Thank you for telling me and good luck with the new home.

Robin,
Welcome!! So glad you found us! Your place sounds very much like what I want! Bantams, Mini Donkeys, ducks, horses, a milk cow, and guineas are on my list of farm friends I hope to have, so I will enjoy hearing of your learnings and expierences as you go! You will find here so many wonderful people who are caring and so very helpful, I am sure you will find help with whatever you need! As for 4-H I was involved for a short time, was relocated to Japan, and have been here ever since so I am afraid I can not be of much help there except to say I think it is wonderful what you are doing and I LOVE the pin! It may serve you well!

I wish you the very best and look forward to getting to know you better as I see you 'round our "farm"!
Hugz,
Talitha

Hi Robin - Good to see another Jersey girl! I am in Burlington County but my DH works in Mercer county as a custodian. I have a small farm (just missing the old farmhouse - I live in a rancher) but I have two mini horses, one farm goat, one Nubian goat, I raise cocker spaniels (wanna buy a puppy ;) and have a few other dogs and lots of cats and lots of chickens! We are on almost an acre.
I would love the chance to meet with another farm gal - maybe we could meet for some tea at a diner or something -
I love working outside and puttering around in my woods and garden - girl I tell you, I can't wait for spring to get here, it is way too cold for me....burrrrr

Hi,Robin, my nextdoor neighbor is from Jersey! But now she has adopted Arkansas as her home! I hope you all can keep the charm of your smaller towns & countryside! Down here it is being gobbled up by developers.:(

It is a rule of nature that taking a day off on the farm sets a person back at least a week.

Hi Robin! Welcome to the forum from a neighbor of yours---Lawrenceville! Pennington is a very pretty area with farms and open land and a very charming little village! I like the back roads around the spring and the fall. Nice little roadside farmstands when the seasons allow! I don't farm, but I'm definitely a country girl at heart. It's a small world! Judy

Hi Robin- I am a former Mercer Co, 4-Her! And I still live in the general area! I'm glad you've found us. Your farm name sounds familiar, I probably have passed your way a million times! My MIL lives right around the corner from Howell Farm! Small world huh? I don't know the new guy at extension, but Sharon is a sweetie and will help with whatever she can too! Nice to have you here!

with a happy heart

Welcome Robin! How cool that you are starting a 4-H club! I remember there was always a 4-H exhibit at the town fair when I was a kid. I'm glad your friend told you about us!

Hi Again:

Thank you girlsfor the warm welcome. I have my 4-H agent's blessing and support. He is very kind. I'm looking forward to working with him. I started with a saturday enrichment at the elementary school for 6 weeks. A different animal each week. So we did, seeing eye dogs, rabbits, chickens, ducks, goats and horses. And from there I'm starting with about 15 or so kids. More are signing up. I have my first official meeting on April 15th. Having a bonfire welcome here for them in March. Thanks for your help.

Welcome to the group!! I am excited to be starting 4H with my kids this year too..I was in it for a short time as a kid and loved it...my mom and uncle grew up on a dairy farm and were always in 4H. My oldest sons were in FFA and did animals that way. Your variety of critters sound great..I just love animals and working with them too.
You will love it here..I am glad you found us!!

Robin, hello, so great to have another Jersey girl w/ us. We have a few now in diferent counties. I'm grom monmouth county, farmingdale. Are you familiar w/ it? I don't live on a farm, only in heart. I used to go to Pennington alot for dairy, fruit & veggies. Pennington used to be all dairy farms way back when. Is there still that one dairy farm left? So glad you are w/ us. We used to belong to 4H when my daughter was younger in Mon. Co. w/ rabbits. Call your extention they will give you ingo. If you don't have one call any other co. extension or N.J. agriculture, they will help. So great to have you here!
