Hi! I am Kelley from California and just wanted to stop by and introduce myself....
I am a farmgirl at heart and even though we are living in the city right now our dream is to get to the country and have our own small homestead with huge veggie and herb and flower gardens, fruit trees of all sorts, farm animals and my own little soap and toiletries cottage...
I love cooking and baking, aromatherapy, herbs, flowers and soap and toiletry and candlemaking...
Hope that I didn't bore you all to death!
Looking forward to getting to know you all and learning lots!
Kelley

Not a problem... I just went to Yahoo and typed in Ojai Lavendar and Herb Farm...
When it came up just clicked on it and I was there!

Kelley,
I don't know what I did wrong. I can't get it to work for me either off of what I printed. Of course it works fine off of my favorites! Well, just go to google and put in ojai lavendar and herbs or some such combo and you should be able to come up with Alisa's web site.
sorry!

Thanks Lindy!

Kelley,
I was just going to e-mail this site to you but I thought maybe others might like to check it out http://www.ojailavendarandherbs.com/company.htm Of course we have the advantage of visiting this place, it's almost in our backyard. Maybe I'll see you at the "Day on the Farm" June 25&26th.

I really need to work on the orange trees...they are so outta control....
They need pruning...
I am trying to find a way to use some of the oranges in my soap...
I am learning to dry the rings and make powder from the peels but would love it if I could use some pulp...
Still working on that...
And I am still researching to see what herbs will work well here...
Probably not alot since we have alot of shade from all the trees!

Here's a weird thing about the avocado tree...I think that there maybe a smaller tree somehow right by it...
But if it isn't I am gonna buy an avocado tree!
Lindy Reilley Posted - Jun 09 2005 : 09:32:03 AM
Kelly,
Go out today and buy a new avocado tree and plant it! Before you know it you'll be enjoying your own avos again. I know how sad it is to lose those trees. Within the last couple of years we've lost an apple, tangerine and plum tree that my great grandfather had planted. For my dad's birthday and Christmas gifts, I have given him new fruit trees to plant. They are now starting to produce, yet my dad has yet to get any of the fruit - that's because the grandkids beat him to the tree(the fruit is still practically green).

Hey Lindy, isn't it sad how quickly the farm land is disappearing??
Oxnard used to have such huge expanses of farmland and now there is a field here and there....so distressing....
We have orange trees that were here when my hubby bought this home ( before we were married) and an avocado tree....
Our avocado tree died this year...goodness knows how old it was ...at least 50 years old...
Man, I am going to miss those avocadoes!

Hi Joy,
I live in Southern Calif. centrally located between the "Beach Boys Rincon and Ventura Co. line."(approx. 20 miles inland from coastline). The Valley that I live in has always been Citrus- but times are changing. Quite a few orchards if not falling to houses..are being replaced by avocados, row crops such as peppers or tomatoes, we are also seeing quite a few large commercial nurseries going in. My parents were considering this option, it's appealing to burnt out farmers who can't seem to make ends meet, but would still like to live on the land. My husband and I have now taken over the property and will keep the orange trees besides looking for another crop.

Greetings from Iowa. Welcome from a week old newbie to you. I have already learned so much from the wonderful farmgirls here, I'm sure you will too. I've only flown in and out of CA, but it is on my "list" to visit within the next 3 years. Are you in N or S? What crops?

Hi Jana,
Fillmore is beautiful and maybe I should take this opportunity to introduce myself properly. I am a 4th generation farmgirl, living on a 12 acre orchard that my great-grandfather purchased in the early 1900's. I am a mother of 5 children(ages 7-19), bookend girls with three boys in between. My husband and I joke that we have a full house (in card talk). We share the property with my parents. Between my grandparents(depression time, save everything), my dad and myself and our collecting disease, we have a plethora of "junk" on our property.
The property is now in my husbands and my hands and we are in the process of trying to bring life back to the land. My parents had torn out more than half the orange orchard (no $ in those). We are working on turning our spot into a agri-tourism bus. (seems that's a direction a lot of sm. farms are going now)We're looking into building a barn (which has always been a dream of mine)I'm sure I will be bending everyone's ear on this topic.
Myself, as my parents before me have always felt that it was worth it (even though the ranch was not paying for itself)just to live here. We have always enjoyed sharing this priviledge with everyone and would like to reach more people. If you have any ideas for Bunny Hill Farm let me know.
I apologize for not quite understanding the chat room format and hopefully did not commit any bloopers. Please let me know. This is probably the most longwinded I'll be.

Hi, Kelley! Welcome. It sounds like we have a lot in common!

Also, Linda Reilley - it's funny, but just today, I was looking up the movie, "How to Make an American Quilt" to find out where it was filmed because it seemed like such a beautiful location - and I found out that it was filmed in Fillmore!

You are very lucky to live there! I looks just lovely!

Hi Calif. farm girl! I am new to the site also and have yet to put my hello and info in. But I just wanted to let you know, I'm another farm girl just around the corner from you. I live in Fillmore. I have yet to really figure out chat rooms - not to mention this square box in front of me.. but I'm working on it.
If your looking for some farming experiance there is a master gardening class being offered at the Faulkner Farm in Santa Paula beginning in Jan.
