Hi ladies: I'm Karla from Central Iowa. I'm a genuine Farm Girl! My folks had an acreage when I was growning up. I did more than my share of walking beans, feeding livestock and taking care of my various pets. Dogs, cats, guinea pigs, rabbits, a piglet here and there and I think I even had a salamander! LOL

I'm happily childfree living on an acreage with my husband of 15 years. I have a full-time business of selling Handmade Soaps and Toiletries. My husband should be retiring this year which will give him more time to work on his garden.

I really love the Back to Nature way of doing things and I'm always experimenting with new crafts and such. I've been really getting into canning and freezing produce from my DH's garden. Does anyone have a recipe for a Sweet Dill Pickle??????

I think I've blabbed enough! Great to be here.

THANK YOU for the recipes. I buy these pickles at the grocery store and pay an arm and leg for them. They are called sweet dill strips. The brand name is Sechlers. I would just love to be able to get a close duplication of them. Last year I made plain dills and some bread and butters. This canning stuff kinda gets to be an addiction! lOL

OK, here it is:

Weird--it says for 1 jar--when did I ever make just 1 jar of pickles??

Put into a quart jar:
sliced cucumbers
1 sprig of dill or 1 scant tsp. dill seed
1 clove garlic

Bring to a boil and add to jar:
1 cup water
2 cups vinegar
1 1/2 cups sugar
2 tsp. salt

Water bath 20 minutes.

Hope this helps. Like Nancy I often google for recipes nowdays or go to my favorite recipe site--Allrecipes.com

Hi Karla,

I have a Sweet Dill Pickle recipe I've used for years. I find it and post it for you.

Karla:

Lately when I've needed a recipe I just "Google It". I typed in Sweet Dill Pickles and got several links to recipes. One that sounded promising is:

Sweet-Dill Refrigerator Pickles

2 cups sugar
2 cups vinegar
2 cups water
1/4 cup salt
1 large onion-sliced
3/4-1 cup minced fresh dill
3 quarts unpeeled cucumbers-sliced

Combine sugar, vinegar, water, and salt--bring to boil, and boil 1 minute.

In large NONMETALLIC container, combine cucumbers, onion, and dill.

Pour dressing over; cool; cover; then refrigerate for at least 3 days, stirring each day.

This makes 3 1/2 quarts--cut in half if you wish.

Hope this helps.
Nancy

Hi Karla, I don't have the sweet dill pickle recipe either but it sounds good. I'd like to try it if you find one. I also like to make soap too. Sometimes mine comes out a bit weird looking but it still works. Well, welcome from one newbie to another. Deb
