Hi, finally I made it in! I live in a rural subdivision on 1 1/2 acres where we have an organic garden & small orchard. Soon we will be adding Nigerian Dwarf goats for milk & entertainment! I buy goat milk now & make cheese, yogurt & kefir.
I have been into making aprons since finding one among my grandmother's things that she had started but not finished. It's brown gingham with smocking.
I hope to partiscipate as much as I can find the time.
It is a rule of nature that taking a day off on the farm sets a person back at least a week.

Jerri-Ann, Welcome, wish I'd known you a 3 years ago! We lived in Maumelle, and just moved to Kentucky in November. I really miss Arkansas! Some of the nicest people I've ever met have been Arkansans!

Tried to get in but it has been so long, I don't think I am recognized! Lucy, don't give up on kefir. Chickenlips,& Choctawmama, I'm 3/8 choctaw. Halito! My choctaw name is Nishkin Yukpah.

We are also getting goats in the spring, and boy! do I have alot to learn! I wonder if african pygmy goats are the same as NDGs? Happy posting!

I went to the search line, typed in "sharing organic kefir grains", hit "search", Farmgirl was about 5 sites down on the list, looked good, clicked on it, and the rest is history!  GGOOOOOOOOOD history! this is your farm sister signing off, Lucy P.S. I don't live on a farm. We have about 1/3 acre, good sized city lot. We love it. We both grew up on farms.

Hi, Crittermama, Welcome! - though I just got hatched myself! I'm still drying out, currently ran across you while I was trying to figure out how to post on Welocme Wagon in response to my post that I managed to get on about "DANGER! STARCHED FLOORS AHEAD!" (Had to do with oversprayed starch starching the floors and possibly being a contributory factor in landing one's self, or some other dear soul, unwantingly on their keister - or however you spell that!) I noticed your interest in goats, and like I said, my feathers are still drying from just being hatched, so I don't know how much has been on here re: goats. I just wanted to tell you, and everyone else, about my goat milk experience. It was (past tense) like most everyone elses: yuk! can't stand the taste and smell! Well, met some new friends about 6 years ago, offered me some excess goats milk. To be nice I took it, and besides, I really did want it, I know it's good for a guy. Gals, too! Ahemph! Hey! Is THIS goats milk I thought? Really? They told me their's would not taste "odd", and they swore this is their secret: They milk the goats, strain the milk IMMEDIATELY and pour it into jars and in the frig, RIGHT NOW! NO, ABSOLUTELY NONE, delay. It never did taste weird to me, and I could not tell the difference, as far as an off taste went, between that and cow's milk, except it really tasted and "felt" better than cow's milk. Hey, Lady, you make kefir? Woo whoooo! I've been looking for someone that could sell me or share kefir grains with me. Are you that someone? I have sent out a few emails for them from searching the net, but no response. Maybe their responses are sitting in the trash! Our computer dumps a lot of new friends there. Sorry about that, anyone who responds to me and doesn't hear back, you're maybe sitting in my trash can! I'll try to check the trash can for you every now and then. O K! Now to try to figure out how to get me on the Welcome Wagon. If you all haven't had enough of me by now, you can go look there for me and see if I conquered it, or vise versa. Enjoy! Love you guys. Lucy Oh! P.S. In all this getting in with Farmgirl, I've met Carol by the net, and even she is going to try kefir!

We built the goat pen with 5' no-climb horse wire & the perimeter fence is a 6' privacy along the back of the property. I can't wait to see if this will contain the little acrobats!

Welcome to the Farm girls - You will love those little goats ( I have not owned any yet but I have babysat them many a time) - my favorite is them walking on the top rail of the fence like wire walkers at the circus or climbing atop something outside the window so they can talk to you thru the window (thank god the car was not a real beauty - just a clunker)

Yep...what I have found is the smaller the goat, the harder they are to keep fenced in..but gosh they are SOOOOOOO cute~!!

Welcome, Jeri-Ann! Juming "into the deep end" here is about the best way to get familiar with all the farmgirls and the news. There is a wealth of information, and more friendship than you could ever hope for!

Yellojewel,I can't wait until April when we get our first goats! We almost have the barn ready!
Can't wait to make cheese with NDG milk! Aunt Jenny, is it true they are escape artist? I'm hopin' I can keep them content so they won't want to!
Willowtree, you are just up the road apiece! I love the babyback ribs at Market Place! I'm an artist too. We will have to get together.
I was just checking in as I passed the computer room, but since it is sunny ( but cold ) I need to go out & get busy! We have more rain on its way!
