Posted - Jan 02 2007 : 06:13:42 AM God I love this site!! To be honest with you all, I am completely new to the country, farmgirl way of life. This site is a great reference for me, I've read a lot of the topics and have bookmarked a great deal of information. My favorite section is the needlework, I especially admire Sunshine for her beautiful works of art. I love vintagechica's blog. Oh heck, to be honest I love them all!!
For most of my life I lived in New York, first in the Bronx and then in Manhattan. The closest I got to nature was Central Park, and while it's great to walk around in, I would eventually have to go back to my apartment and back to concrete. Sometimes I got the urge to plant flowers in the fire escape, but in the frantic life I led, I would forget to water them and well, you can imagine I had plenty dead plants in the fire escape. Now I live in New Hampshire, a far cry from the hectic city life. I love the silence, the vegetation...and while I still have flowers, since I now have a small deck I SEE them and they do get water..so I have flowers now! Woo Hoo!!
Anyway, I have four sons, two human, 22, Javier and 19, Alejandro, and two feline, Nigel and Pyewacket. No hubby, was married, we both found that it was not meant to be, so I and the kids have been together since. They're now branching out on their own, so I now have the time to dabble in knitting, crocheting, painting, embroidery...Ah so much to discover! Isn't life wonderful?
Well you can see I also like to talk, so I'll shut up and sign off. Have a wonderful day.

Posted - Jan 02 2007 : 3:43:34 PM Welcome. You are just going to love this site and the ladies that are a part of it. I can't imagine living in the city. I live in the country and have all my life. Me being in the city would be just like the Beverly Hillybillys. I'm not joking about that, either. I have a total of 6 kid, human , and a whole passel of animals. I also have a granddog, Harley Jane, who I love to keep. she thinks she is human. She loves for you to hold her like a baby and rock her. Isn't the just too funny?? It sounds wonderful in Newmarket. I love the name too! Exeter is another town we were thinking of. We'll have to try and visit soon. My dh's company has a branch in Dover and I could probably find work in the area. It just gets complicated once you have one adult child in Seattle and one in Georgia (with my grandson). I miss the east, but want to be up more in NH or RI. My mom still lives in Westchester, but it's too crowded and expensive to live there!! It still is fun to go home though.

Posted - Jan 02 2007 : 1:08:25 PM Debbie,
I loved Westchester County, I use to go to White Plains all the time for the shopping and to visit friends.
I live in Newmarket, NH. It's a small town, not as well known as Keene, which is lovely. Newmarket's Main Street has a few bars, a post office, a few restaurants and the library and town hall. A big change from NYC, but that's why I like it. Here in Newmarket I'm close to Portsmouth which is considered a city but I like to think of as a town, and Exeter, which to me is the quintessential New England town. I live close to the Lamprey River which is not polluted! What a concept!
What I loved about NH when I visited was the air quality. The air smelled GOOD. The stores have no metal gates and the banks have no bullet-proof barriers. It's a simpler way of life from NYC. I've lived here since November of 2004, and I am fond of my adoptive state. I'm sure you'll love it here if you get a chance to move here. |

Welcome to the forum!! I grew up in Westchester county, so at least we had gardens & grape arbors, etc. Where are you in NH?? I've been dreaming of moving to the Keene area for over a year now. May have to wait until we retire which is eons away. Glad to have you on board.
