Hi Everyone~

I'm a new farmgirl (in training) on the block. My name is Vanessa and I live on Hatteras Island NC, 30 miles out to sea. I can see the beautiful lighthouse blinking from my front porch. No cows to milk or fields to harvest here. However, I love to cook, knit and do other farmgirl activities and projects.

I am a single mom homeschooling 3 boys (ages 12, 14, & 16) which is very difficult at times. I also present historical programs, wearing accurate period clothing, displaying artifacts and talking about that era. My programs span different time periods in American history.

It's late so I'll close for now. Just wanted to say hello! :-) I'm excited to be here!

Since several of you asked about my living history programs, I have posted that in the "Entrepreneurship" section.

Hey Eren, when you get back to VB, we'll get together. I also used to live in VB in the summers, as my parents had a boat there. We spent every weekend and summer living on it. Looking forward to having you come to the island!

Hi Vanessa, have been off for a few weeks and missed a bunch. Your place sounds beautiful. I too would love to hear more about your period clothing and presentations. I live by a living history farm period 1880-1900 and really enjoy taking part in thier activities. You'll love it here.

Hello Vanessa, and WELCOME!
I'm so pleased you are here! Wow! You have so much to tell us about, your life sounds QUITE interesting! Lighthouses, history and homeschool-not to mention 3 boys!
My husband has always thought lighthouse keeping is his calling...he drives a truck instead-alone all day, a teeny bit the same.
We have three sons too, ages 20, 16 and 13-so just a bit older than your guys. My boys are homeschooled too. Isn't it wonderful?
Well that's probably enough chatter for now. Look forward to knowing you better!
Blessings,
Rhonda

Hello Vanessa. Sorry I haven't extended the welcome to you sooner. I know how you feel about being a single parent for I was once for 2 years. Believe me what won't break you will make you stronger. I can remember days of nearly losing it and then I thought no, I will come out of this a stronger person. Just hang in there. Wishing you all the best in the future. Would love to hear more about your job and clothing. I help with 4-H . I also dress the part with old clothing but mine are more toward the pioneers and Annie Oakly.

Vanessa,

Somehow I missed welcoming you. Sorry. I hope you are enjoying being here; I know I am.

I homeschool also; three boys at those ages might indeed get interesting. I only have one boy in that age group, and I'm not sure I'm gonna survive that !!!

Vanessa, I just might take you up on that invitation! Seriously. I have 3 boys as well ages 20 months, and twins who are 4 and a half. We live in WI right now but will be moving back to VA Beach in June/July next summer. We lived in Va. Beach for 7 years as DH was stationed with the Navy there and needed some shore duty break time so we moved inland. We've been to Hateras Island before when DH and I first were married. It is so lovely there. And we would love to visit you and your boys and see Hatteras Island with someone who can tell us all of the great stories!

Welcome Vanessa! I lived in Cary, North Carolina for about two years - but that was awhile back. Made an unexpected overnight stay on Hatteras Island - missed the last ferry back to the mainland. Fortunately, there was ONE hotel room left available - the honeymoon suite. ;-) That's a mistake you don't make twice ;-)

There's always a seaweed or jelly fish harvest, of course... We used to live off the Chesapeake Bay in Virginia and there's nothing as pretty as living out to sea.

Welcome! I love your name.

Your place sounds so beautiful. My husband lived in North Carolina for a few years and would like to go back to visit. I'd like to join him if we could throw a visit to such a pretty place in! I had no idea there were islands off the coast there.
