Hello from Kirkwood, Missouri - a suburb of St. Louis. I'm a country girl living in the "city" but my heart will always be rural!
I enjoy all kinds of fiber-related arts: quilting, weaving, sewing...I've tried to master spinning wool, but it's just not happening, so I've taken up felting to use up all the fiber I have accumulated!

Sandy I know what you mean - The first teacher I had would come around and pinch the top of your hand if you held the fiber to taught in your hand! What a way to teach? I have taught as young as 5 to as old as 82 and have never had someone who did not walk away spinning and yes, smiling. This is to be a joy not stressfull. Although my shoulders are always around my ears when I knit, so I crochet. Do what makes your heart sing and enjoy!

Sandy - welcome! We're glad you're here. I have been to St. Louis many times. Raised near Springfield, IL so it was a nice day or weekend trip for us. Went to Six Flags and lots of ball games at the old Busch stadium. Oh and the zoo too.

Oh, Grace, I wish you were closer, too. The class I took left me with such tension in my neck and shoulders, teeth clenched...I was so frustrated because everyone I know that spins says it is such a relaxing endeavor! I will keep at it and hope that eventually it will click! Much of the fiber I have is a merino and fine wool blend - is that difficult to work with?

Great to hear from another fiber art gal. I love to spin and could do it 24 hours a day. Love felting and needle felting but do not give it as much time as my spinning. You will find very supportive ladies here and I wished you were closer, I teach spinning and in the nine years of teaching I have never had a student who could not get it. WELCOME

Welcome Sandy! Good to hear from you! Yes, quilting IS addictive for sure!
Jenny, I have done a lot of quilting, first machine pieced and hand quilted. Got into quilt groups that just like to "whip 'em out" and started sending them out to be quilted. I never felt as good about them so have gone back to hand quilting. I don't care if I only make one a year now. At least it works for me. Of course everybody feels differently about this subject.

welcome sandy! Glad to have you here. i would like to quilt too. My grandmother (in law) quilts. This year our uncle is taking all her quilts tops that she didnt complete and he is having them finished for all the grandbabies. What a treat!

Welcome Sandy! I am new too. Would like to try my hand at quilting as well. No idea where to start though. My DH would like to get me a sewing machine. Do you all quilt by hand or machine? I have a lot of crafts I would like to do, just not a lot of time right now. I try to crochet when I can. Sometimes I do it in the car if we are out... or if I am watching a little tv.

Eren, a note of caution....once you start quilting, there's no turning back ;-) It begins a series of events in what I call the "what if" syndrome. "What if" I change the colors just a bit, "what if" I alter the pattern this way, "what if" I combine this pattern with that pattern....and suddenly you find yourself with stashes of fabric hiding under the bed, in the closets, wherever you can find space. Right now, I am experimenting with quilting with silk ties that I buy at Goodwill. I deconstruct them and use the fabric.
Weaving can be the same addiction. A friend of mine from our guild move into an retirement facility...rather than give up her looms, she made the living room the "loom room" and uses the bathtub in the guest bathroom to store her fibers! |

What a great group -- and what a small world! I had been looking for Cabin Creek Farm for years - there used to be a mail order business operated from the farm. Thanks to this group - I've "virtually" met the new owner of the farm and learned about its recent history. A number of you have similar interests in fiber arts, quilting, etc. so I'm looking forward to exchanging ideas, although I don't have a blog yet and haven't a clue as to how to start one.
And yes, Jenny, St. Louis in July can be brutal! |

Welcome Sandy!! I am the opposite..I can spin but havn't mastered (or got around to trying!!!) felting yet...but I will at some point. You are going to love it here...lots of gals with the same interests..and I learn alot from them every day.
I have never been to Missouri except to the airport at ST. Louis 4 years ago...just for a quick stop to take a small plane to Paducah Kentucky to visit my new (and only) granddaughter when she was born. I didn't get to look around. I just remember it was hot that day...July...and I wished I were there in the spring or fall..haha
Anyway..welcome to our group!!

I'm a knit and felt gal myself. Working on a couple of mats and a "travel" backgammon board right now.
I'm new to the site myself, but I'm not knew to the farm. Glad to see other fresh faces emerging, too.
