Hi! I've been reading on this site for over a month and thought I should say hello and start posting. I already feel like I know many of you, yet none of you know I exist!
I found out about MaryJane by chance-on a WalMart magazine rack. I saw her magazine, had some extra dollars, and picked it up on a whim. Now I'm devoted, LOL.
I'm an Oklahoma girl married to a Star Valley, Wyoming boy, living in Rupert, Idaho where my husband manages at an organic dairy.
We have a little 6 acre place with a bunkhouse (the original homestead), lots of trees, a few Boer goats, Suffolk sheep,some mutt sheep, a few horses, and I just purchased a few milk goats! They should freshen in April, and I'm terrified and excited about that! I also have two dogs, a border collie and a lab.
The best things in my life are my two daughters, 2 1/2 and 2 months.
So that's me!

Naimh, too funny! What a small world. While I went to OSU, my parents lived in Ponca City. For only about 2 years. But my mother managed the JCPenney store there. Then she too early retirement and moved back into the old farmhouse that my dad grew up in in TX. So, I made many a drive from Stillwater to Ponca. Again, welcome!

This is so neat to read about "finding" yourself, as I have felt that way recently. I truly feel I am a farmgirl! I have lived on a 3.5 acre spot for several years, but now feel it is my hobby farm. I live at home with my mom and stepfather and my mom supports all the farm activities. I always have a "5 year plan" and that will continue as long as we have the farm. Always something to do...
Oh, and a warm welcome to Niamh!!

What lovely welcomes, thank you! I'll try and see if I can remember all the questions and answer them...
I'm from Ponca City, Oklahoma. About as far north as you can get without being in Kansas. It's a good place to be from. I miss Oklahoma, but not Ponca City.
My handle (Niamh) is Irish-it's pronounced Neve. When I lived in Ireland, I was not used to Gaelic names, so when I was doing roll call at the riding class one day, I asked if Neeamh was there-the girls were cracking up at the crazy American that couldn't even pronounce a name correctly.
I just recently moved to Idaho from Utah. My husband was doing research on all sorts of diseases at Utah State. SARS was nerve-racking, but when they told him they might be getting bird-flu in to work on, we decided it was time for him to find a job closer to his real enjoyments. So he did a 180, career-wise, and has never been happier. It's nice to have a husband who likes his job.
My dad lives in Cascade near McCall. I love it up there. We're visiting for their ice festival this year. My older dd will love it.
I'm hoping to get chickens this spring. We have some old silos on our place and I've heard that you can convert them into chicken coops pretty easily.
As for me, I'm constantly surprising myself as I grow. Becoming a mother has really awakened my true self, and lo and behold, I'm a farmgirl! Cracks my husband up-he says I'm becoming Amish. I am getting more and more granola all the time.
I'm so excited about a bigger garden this spring. I sew and knit. I am seriously thinking about starting a cooking business. I herd with my border collie. I do some work online to cover odd and end costs around the house. Hmmm...what else?

I am glad you found us. I originally stumbled onto an MJ magazine..the art of the egg issue...at a Barnes and Noble up north quite some time ago. I think alot of us found our way here that way!!
Hey Cindy!! I used to live in McCall!! It was about 20 years ago and I lived there only for a year but I sure loved it! I waitressed at the Woodsman Cafe and it was a wonderful place to live. Unfortunatly my ex had a "moving chip" that helped us not stay anywhere for long. EX!!! I loved Idaho alot.

Niamh, Welcome! I lived in OK for a long time. Where are you from? I lived in Perry, Ardmore, Elk City, graduated HS from Claremore, went to OSU (Go Pokes!) and then ended up in Norman. Now Im married with 3 boys and living in Wisconsin. Glad to have you here and cant wait to get to know you.

Welcome welcome Niamh. Glad you introduced yourself. Sounds like you have a great place with much going on. 2 beautiful daughters- how blessed you are. Keep posting and tell us more about your farm. I have 6 acres as well but no farm animals yet. Hopefully this spring i will get some goats and chickens.
I "happened" upon maryjane one day as well and it has been a true blessing in my life. Glad to have you here!
