In the men working world people talk about a blue collar worker a labor man, or a white collar a business man. Well, this got me thinking. My last job, a cook at a preschool and daycare where I got a wear my own aprons that I sewed myself. I got so many compliment on the aprons I wore from the teachers to the children. Now, at my new job I wear a black apron. I work in the deli department of a small health foods market chain. I get to wear any colored tee shirt or collar shirt I want. It goes with out saying, working for a small family run business makes working enjoyable to get up in the morning. It is such a nice change of pace to work with other middle age gals. I have seen some past parent I use to work with their children and was asked, "Won't you miss the kids?" My response, "I will always have a special place in my heart for children." I work their for almost 9 years.

This apron idea pop in to my head because of my family heritage. Part German on my Fathers' side and part Finnish on my Mothers' side. The fabric came from my old stash of fabric I had in my sewing box. The dish towel came from an antique store, only half was embroider so I use the finish half on the apron skirt. When I use the wear this apron at the school job the children would say... "I like you flowers on your apron, Miss Janice."

This apron is my favorite. I used scrap fabric that belonged to my Mother and the words... BAKERS FLOUR an old flour sack, came from an estate sale. The crocheted flower also came from an estate sale. The blue strip fabric came from my favorite maternity dress. My son is now 19! I just could not throw it away until I found another use for it.

Looks like aprons are in your life. It would be fun to see some of the ones you made for yourself. Maybe you could make some for others.
