I couldn't think of a clever subject so I went with that...it's true!

I'm Morgan, I was born and reared in Knoxville TN and my ancestors have been in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mtns since before the Civil War. I was mostly raised by my grandparents, out in the country so I got to enjoy picking blackberries, getting chased by cows while picking blackberries (ok not fun), climbing trees and catching crawdads. I think I've had a long time interest in self-sufficiency, crafts, DIY, etc and am fairly "granola" in my old age (35).

I am not sure how long I've been reading the magazine and collecting the books (when I see one at a used bookstore I often grab it to give to someone who may enjoy it). I've subscribed to a lot of magazines over the years but I think MJF is the only one I cannot bear to cut articles out of and toss the rest.

I majored in anthropology and got to be an archaeologist til I got laid off and now I work for the State. I seem to collect used books and craft supplies (my favorites being soap making, bath and body stuff and cardmaking), plan tea parties I'll probably never have, and enjoy gardening (put in 3 raised veggie beds in the spring), food preservation and am settling into my first home which I bought about a year ago.

It's been a big year for me. I bought a house, lost my grandmother with whom I was very close, got a new job, became an official FarmGirl (#6565) and now my son is preparing to move out for his sophomore year of college (luckily UTK). Yes, I had him very young.

My boyfriend saw my sisterhood packet and the card Winnie sent me welcoming me and decided I had joined a cult.

"But there are merit badges" I said. I don't know of any cults that have merit badges.
:D
Nice to meet you all.

Welcome!

You sound VERY interesting....

We just moved our son to Nashville to attend Belmont University in August. Been to TN twice in my life and always in a rush. Beautiful there and I am longing to go back for a good LONG visit.

I know you will enjoy the 'cult.' I've been a member on MJF's connection since 2009 and I can't tell you how many times the girls have been there for me in times of trouble and triumph!

You are going to love it here.....

Morgan, Welcome! That is too funny... 'Made me think of the time my son pointed out to me that the girls on MJF are probably not even really women at all, but rather a bunch of unshaven old men, sitting in their underwear on couches in their parents' basements, smoking stogies! LOL! I had posted about it once, but can't find the link for you. Too funny. Just too, too funny! But no, we're not a cult! We're just like-minded farmgirls at heart who are really just thrilled to have found each other! ;) SO glad you've joined us! Hugs - Nini

Welcome Morgan, I like the comment you gave your boyfriend. Although my husband didn't think I had joined a cult, it was so unlike me to join anything. He loves when I get things in the mail, and is extremely jealous that I get things and he doesn't. Just wait until the packages, cards and things start rolling in, his attitude will change and he will be jealous of the attention you are receiving from your new found sisters.
Welcome aboard.

Welcome Morgan! Your post title made me laugh, since my family kind of said the same thing! So glad you're here, and I'm looking forward to hearing all about your life. Sorry for the loss of your grandmother, but you certainly are living out a Farmgirl legacy from her. Hugs!

Happy Day!

Hi There, Morgan! Welcome! I giggled at your post. I had a few friends think that, too, long ago when I first joined. You sound like a very busy lady and I can't wait to see more of you around the chat room.

Well, yes I agree in part. We are a sort of cult if you think of us as being super-passionate about things. We have official books and magazines, jewelry, a wonderful leader! Chat room, glam ping get-together so and all the rest. But, I wouldn't change a thing!

A soon-to-be empty nester earning merit badges and fussing over three raised beds? For sure, such a woman would be considered a participant in the totally cult-ural phenom called farmgirl.

Welcome! What a fun introduction to all things Morgan.

I seriously sat here and CRACKED UP! Welcome to the Farm :) I have never heard of the Sisterhood compared to a cult. I don't think cults are full of people who actually CARE about one another. Who are diverse in their beliefs and values, but come together with a mutual interest in farm life and all it entails. Nonetheless, I am glad you joined us :) Congratulations on your new home, and I am so sorry about your grandmother. Looking forward to getting to know you better :)
