Good afternoon everyone! My name is Rachel and I am a new farmgirl from Valley, Alabama. We're right on the Georgia/Alabama line, an hour and a half south of Atlanta and 30 minutes North of Auburn University.

I am the library director at a small state community college in Phenix City, Alabama, and I truly do love my work. I live in a 1920's mill village with my boyfriend, our two Boston Terriers, Otis Redding and EmmyLou, and our cat, Memphis Minnie. I have a pet betta at work as well, named Dame Edna!

Monty, my bf, and I both play guitar and sing, and will pretty much read anything with words on it. I love to cook, sew, embroider, and do origami. I'm learning how to quill and tat.

We have a semi-vintage popup camper we bought last summer that I'm going to start glamping up as soon as the weather down here cooperates a little better. We can't wait to take his boys and our dogs camping in it!

I look forward to getting to know everyone in the sisterhood!

Rachel

Hi Rachael, I taught myself how to play the autoharp in the traditional style a few years ago. My advice is to pick one simple tune and just work on it exclusively. In the process of learning it, you'll figure out the whole technique for picking out a tune from those (seemingly) millions of strings!

Favorite reads - that one is so hard! I consider myself to be an evangelist for the works of Carson McCullers. She was from across the river in Columbus, Georgia, and I wrote my senior thesis on her works. I spent the last two years at my old job going through a collection of her things that were donated to the university where I worked - heaven!

I also love the Sambo books by Ferrol Sams - definitely something farmgirls should read. All about growing up on a struggling former plantation in Georgia during the depression. They're laugh-out-loud funny.

That's just a few off the top of my head right now!

Well, let's just say that I have very "eclectic" musical taste! Everything from Western Swing to British Heavy Metal. I play guitar and sing, but in the past I played flute, baritone and bells in marching band, and I took classical piano for ten years! I play a little bit of bass, a little mandolin, and I have an autoharp that I am determined it not going to whip me! Mainly, I play Beatles songs on the guitar with my Dad now.

Hi, Rachel, and welcome! My grandparents were from Alabama - both sides, one pair half Cherokee and the other pair...Hmm ??

I think you will like these 'sisters.' I'm convinced there's not a better bunch to be found.
