Hello FarmGirls! I'm Jennifer. I've been reading Mary Janes mag and website for a while now and decided to introduce myself. I love the whole vibe of this site! How nice to have such a positive supportive place to go. I live on a farm and love gardening and raising animals. My husband and I are constantly learning and still have a long ways to go but we are getting better at it. I look forward to getting to know you all and share stories (I have some funny ones because my animals are as crazy as I am).

Thanks for the welcome, Mary Beth! April, I hope you get those chickens! We were looking at chicks the other day and wanted to buy them all. I'm a sucker for baby animals.

He doesn't have anything against chickens, we just have a small yard and with everything I want to plant he doesn't think that we have enough room. I would love to have cows, pigs, goats, and chickens if we ever have enough room for them. Yes there are beekeeping classes in the area, I have been talking to a member of the WV bee keepers association, and buying their honey, he offered to show my husband his hives and try to get him interested.:) Denise, Hello. My husband grew up in Grafton. I am about 30 min away also.

April, what about chickens is your husband against? I am no expert but will help you out as much as I can. My husband tends to say no to things he doesn't understand or know much about. We have lots of animals. Raise few cows, pigs, etc for meat. Have chickens, horses and a donkey. I want to get a milk cow and alpacas. We want to get bees too. I know there are beekeeping classes around. My brother got a hive and it's doing good. You are welcome to email me if you want to chat more! I love getting to know people in the area.
Hi Denise, I'm an hour away from mo- town. I notice your address says Grafton....we are neighbors!!! Only about 30 min away! Tell us about yourself!

Hello Mel and thanks for the welcome. Hello Jennifer. I garden and if cats and a dog counts as farming then yes I farm, LOL. I love to grow anything and everything. I have a very small amount of land but I have also been planting on my neighbors land, the house is abandoned and the owners don't seem to mind as long as we keep the grass mowed. I want chickens so badly, I have been trying to talk my husband into that idea all winter. I think I am close to getting the go-ahead. I would love bees but that seems to be more difficult to convince him about. So for now I will stick with playing in the dirt. I canned for the first time last year, green beans fresh out of my garden, loved it. So, Jennifer I would love to hear your story as well.
