Hello Everyone!

I hope that all is well and the night is peaceful where you are.

My Name is Lindy and I am so happy to have found this group.

I have been reading Mary Jane's Farm Magazine for a couple of years. Before that I used to dream of having a farm someday.

Well, earlier this year that dream was realized. We found a 12 acre patch with an old house on it. We bought it and have been having such a good time.
The house is pretty small. It was built in 1920 and I have been in touch with the lady who was born in this house! She has been such a goldmine of information. She has shared so many stories of her life here.
It is such a grounded feeling to look around my tiny farmhouse kitchen and think of her mother, here in 1920. She swept the floor, wiped down the counters and feed her family just as I am doing now. She also brought fourth life in this little place.

I am married to my HS sweetheart for 11 years now. We have 2 boys 6 & 5 and one girl who is 2.
The children have been having a ball, swinging on the tire swing, gathering hickory nuts and chestnuts, having bonfires, you name it.

We decided to call our place Sweet Harvest Homestead. We are raising fruits and vegetables here but we are also raising children, to us they are the Sweetest Harvest of all.

okay, that got a little corny there.

I am just happy that you all are out there. I felt like a loner for a while but now I see that there are lots of kindred spirits who appreciate simplier times.

You all have a good night and I look forward to knowing you.

Lindy

Welcome Christina to our MJF Chatroom! I am happy to learn that you are back to a place that is familiar and still home to you. What a joy to have found a landing spot again that incorporates family access and a new opportunity for you. Many of us do not have a chapter to join, but we find friendship in sharing and being an active part of this chatroom. If time allows, you might also consider joining in swaps because it is another way to get to know other farm girls while having a lot of fun. I look forward to "seeing you here" and sharing the things you are doing . As MaryJane has always says, "Farmgirl is a matter of heart." So no matter where you are, you can be a part of MJF and share with all of us the projects and exploration your Farmgirl heart is doing wherever you live.

Hello New Sisters,

I first discovered an autographed copy of MaryJane's "Ideabook, Cookbook, Lifebook" at a small gift shop in York PA when I was living in that small city in an impoverished neighborhood. I thoroughly enjoyed reading the book cover to cover, many of the chapters taking me back to my childhood. I was born & raised in Concord PA located in Path Valley of central PA. As an adult, no matter where I have lived, I have found a way to have an outside garden, to continue food preservation that I learned as a child/youth from my mother & enjoy most of the activities that go into the making of a home.

I have lived in the country, inner cities, suburbs, & small country towns. I have always found a way to continue gardening & to enjoy the simpler pleasures of life. Just this past fall, my husband & I moved to a condo in Leesburg VA to be closer to his job & the Washington Dulles airport where we both serve as Chaplains. My work experience has been mostly retail related including owning & operating "My Neighbor and Me" as a fair-trade gift shop for 14 years. But I left that season go when needs in our families were requiring more & more trips to PA to assist in family care. We are blessed right now to have all 4 of our parents alive & I'm calling this season "Honoring Our Parents." We are very thankful that we are now in a place where it is suitable for our elderly parents to join us if needed since it is handicap accessible. Plus, I was blessed with two things that I did not expect when we moved here- 2 personal garden plots in our complex just a short walk away from our building & a beautiful perimeter walking trail in the woods.

I decided to finally join the Farmgirl Sisterhood this year to work on the Merit Badges. At this time, there is not a chapter nearby, but I look forward to finding like-minded Sisters in the future. I brought all of my canning/freezing supplies along & have found a way to set up a pantry in our new home. Visitors are surprised when they discover my enjoyment of serving home-grown, home-prepared foods. I value table time; it is the center of our home life that we plan to continue to share.

Welcome back Lindy! It is very nice to meet you. I joined in 2015, so I wasn't around when you joined. Hopefully there are still some ladies around that you remember. But there are some wonderful ladies active now! I look forward to getting to know you better!

Hi Wanda!
How about that!
I am so happy that your son has taken over the old homeplace. How wonderful. Yes, we are on Union Power. They've been good to us for many years.
Congratulations on the marriage of your son. Our eldest son married last June and our middle son just got married at the end of September. No grand babies for us yet, either, but I can't wait! I adore my daughters in law too!
Thank you for saying hello!

Hello Lindy, So glad you have returned to the forum. I joined MJF in 2010, but have only been active on the forum for five years. I married and moved to Monroe, NC just up the road from you. We lived there for 40 years and now live in SC. Are you on Union Power lines? If so my husband was a lineman for them and then before retirement he was the line supervisor. We have one son, 30 years old who married three years ago, and now has taken over the home place. No grandkids yet. Looking forward to getting acquainted, the forum is such a warm and inviting place.

A day hemmed in prayer is less likely to unravel.

Hi Ladies!
This is so serendipitous!
I received an email update this morning from Mary Jane's Farm blog.
That led me to think about this forum, so I came by and logged in.
I had a different username when I first started up WAY back in 2006. (Sweet Harvest Homestead) See very first post at the top.
Anyway, I searched for and found some of my old posts and wow! This is so cool!
On this day- 19 years ago, I joined the chatroom!
My babies are all grown up now, but we do still live on the same acreage in North Carolina.

Are any of you original ladies still around? I remember some of you being so sweet and supportive when I first joined.

xoxo,
Lindy
