Hello, my name is Sarah. I live in Longmont Colorado with my husband two cats and dog. We bought a fixer upper a few years back and have been working on it ever since.

This year I am growing a lovely garden with strawberries, blackberries, tomatoes, peas, beans, peppers and herbs. I also planted a large butterfly/bee garden this year. I hope to get chickens and bees as soon as we are able to put up a privacy fence... hopefully next spring. :)

My real loves are animals, crafting and being outdoors. My interests include sewing, crocheting, photography, scrapbooking, card making, refinishing furniture, hiking and camping. I really look forward to the wonderful friends I will make here and cannot wait to get to know you!

Awesome! Keep me posted. September can be a bit hectic for me, but I would love to meet you. My September looks like this: My father in law will be visiting us the first week of September and the 15th is a huge deadline in my line of work... aside from that the last couple of weeks in September are pretty open. I hope it works out to see you in that time!

Hi Sarah,

Funny thing, I should be down there in September for a quick weekend. I'm hoping anyway. We still haven't found anyone to care for the animals. We'll either be making it a really short trip or we need to find someone. I'd love to do lunch or something while we're there.

It sounds like gardens have been all over the place this year. Mine is doing well but I know many more who are having a really tough weather year. I will also be working on my garden soil this fall. We have a new piece of land so the garden is in the first year and has been very compacted.

And to answer you questions: I have 2 kids. Spinning is a wonderful thing. I love the feeling of the fibers.

Hi C. and Katrina! Thanks for the welcomes! I have so enjoyed being a part of the Farm girl sisterhood so far and look forward to getting to know you both!

C. My garden isn't going so well this year either. I have been kind of down in the dumps about it to be honest. I have decided to work on my soil very seriously this fall and next season in hopes of getting a stellar garden going the next season... we will see how that goes!

Katrina, If you make it to Boulder to visit your brother in law let me know, we should grab lunch or something. :) Your orchard and bee plans sound fabulous! How many kids do you have? Spinning yarn? That is so cool! I haven't ever tried my hand at that, but it sounds like something I would love. :)

Hello Sarah!

I'm just north of you up in Nebraska. We're only about 3 hours from you. I have a brother-in-law in college in Boulder. Welcome! I've got my first 3 chicks and we just bought property so we'll be working on that. We want to put in a small orchard so we may look into having bees later. For now we are trying to make our way through some of the weeds so we can garden.

I have similar interests as well. Gee, somehow I'm not surprised. Great minds think alike and we are all on here after all. ;) I spin yarn, crochet, knit, and am raising a small family in addition to getting the "farm" going.

Sarah,
In answer to your questions;

Chickens, I worked on the original push for the city of Longmont to allow backyard chickens. I hold permit #3 and have had chickens since 2009.

Bees, This is my fourth year of keeping backyard honey bees. I started with a Top Bar hive but moved on to Langstroth hives my second year. I wanted more honey then the Top Bar would allow and it was hard to work with.

I raise both my chickens and bees naturally and don't use any chemicals. I Longmont you can have Four chickens and Up to four hives.

Sarah....I live in Evanston, WY, about 5 hours away. I am going to try to make it out there this fall to see the nieces and nephews. I will let you know if I come your way. If you are ever through Evanston, let me know. I'll give you a ranch tour and we will have a great time sharing stories.

Hi Cindy! How fantastic, I would love to meet in August and I love the PumpHouse. I went to CSU too - go Rams. ;) I am actually meeting a farmgirl who lives in Berthoud this weekend for the first time. Maybe she will be interested in meeting up in August too, I will run this past her on Saturday. I would love to hear your tales of flying, what an exciting adventure that must be, though the Nebraska story sounds like a different kind of adventure. :) Definately keep me posted on your visit out this way and thanks for contacting me!

Oh my did I forget one of my biggest connections to Longmont - I finished my lessons and took (passed!) my private pilot test at your Vance Brand Airport - great place for one of life's milestones. I had a HORRIFIC experience flying solo to Alliance Nebraska, which will forever be known as "Deliverance" Nebraska to me, but that is a story for over that beer at The Pump House.

Hello Longmont!

Although I'm in the DC area now, I was hatched in Denver and visited family there often after we moved, went to CSU and have family in Berthoud. We vacation in Estes every year, so perhaps a mini meeting of some Farmgirls could happen (beer at The Pump House?) while I'm out there in August. I'll contact you directly soon-

Hi Sarah, Welcome to the Forum!
I live in Longmont as well. I have backyard chickens and honeybees (if you need help with the city code on chickens or bees just ask) as well as fruit trees, brambles and a garden. I've just started working with rabbits. Some of my hobbies and past times are Antiquing, sewing, quilting, upcycling and refinshing furniture. My husband and I have three Jack Russells and two Parrots. I have two older children 24 and 26 who have recently returned home. We all love to Jeep, Fish, Hunt and Camp.
I look forward to meeting you someday!
