hello girls! I am a new member this forum from southern Indiana. I have 4 beautiful children; a daughter who is 11, a son wh o just turned 3, a son who is 9 months, and my angel, a son who would be 7 this year and passed away in 2007. I homeschool my children, cloth diaper my lil guy, make my own bread, and yes even my own granola! Lol!!!

I do have a blog. But I'm not very good at it. ;)

We have a 2 acre piece of property, which is mostly wooded. We started trying to be more self sufficient this year. In the past few months we have acquired 18 chickens, though we lost four, and four mini rex rabbits. We also started or first organic garden. It is definitely a challenge, as our soil was mostly dead and needed a lot of amendments and will continue to. It is a slow process and we probably won't harvest a ton but that's okay.
In my spare time, of which I really don't have, I like to sew and cook. I sew and design children's clothing. I am also working on a personal apron. And when I have time I like to concoct recipes which I will be working into a cookbook that is based on fresh and Whole Foods better in season. I also used to really enjoy scrapbooking and am 2 years behind.

I don't know exactly where to post this, so I am going to put it a few places!

My family and I are planning a mini trip to visit SW Missouri over July 4th and the weekend following. I lived in the area many years ago and want to show my family. We also will be visiting Rocky Ridge! I just read Laura I. Wilder's Little House series aloud to my family. We are reading On The Way Home now.

Anyway, we will be that way for July 4th. I haven't sat down and made definite plans, yet. I am looking for a small town Independence celebration that my family and I can visit for the evening. We like the small town feeling best! Anyone have a suggestion? :)

Hello Alicia, and welcome to a great place. I just joined a few weeks ago, and find it so relaxing, encouraging, and uplifting to visit the different topics where really great women of all stripes share what they care about most. Just like you did--your life sounds full and real.

Whatever I can do to support you in your ventures, attempts, and dreams, just holler.

Cheers!

O, a trouble's a ton or a trouble's an ounce,
Or a trouble is what you make it!
And it isn't the fact that you're hurt that counts,
But only--how did you take it?

I remember it being called Santa Claus land too!!! though I was very very small. Holiday World is only about 15 minutes for me.

I love them, too. I grew up on the racetrack and at 16, when I was of age to work, I exercised thoroughbreds as my summer job. It's hard scrabble, a bit, but the folks are great and you get to ride horses. So, no brainer!

Mom and I were actually thinking of heading to Evansville, Henderson, New Harmony and some of our old haunts this summer and taking my little one to Holiday World (which I recall being called Santa Claus Land).

Spent my happiest (and hottest) summers in Evansville, Alicia. My father worked at Ellis Park as a state racing official and we lived "downtown" Evansville in a grand old apartment building a block from the river.

Thanks girls! This is such a homey site!

The jam is very yummy!!! A lil high in sugar, though. Making more today with less sugar.

I live in Stendal. I am about 5 miles north of I64, nearly halfway between IL and KY. 45min East of Evansville, 45 min North of Owensboro, KY, and 30 min Southwest of Jasper.

Hi Alicia! Welcome! I live close to Southern Indiana--in Northern Kentucky, Elsmere, near Florence, just about 12 minutes south of Cincinnati.

You'll love it here and it sounds like you'll fit right in :)

...................

My daughter is in the hospital, having a hard time being separated from her 5 month old baby, who she never seemed to have enough time with to begin with. My sons last night prayed with me for her, and it felt as though, although we are all so far apart, that we were together. At the same time, in the night. I thought about you... I saw the light come into the room. That light has been around since I first asked God to show me that God exists, 40 years ago. I send it at the end of each message I leave. Right now, I am sending it to the entire world of people, and your situation made me consider - all who must be separated from another they love, with all their heart.

Bless you this day

With LIGHT!

Welcome DandeeRose,
You are going to love being a part of MJF. I read your blog. It is a lot better than I can do. You have a wonderful life growing with your family at your farm.

As in Brown Co Karin? That is such a beautiful area! My husband used to vacation there with his grandparents every summer we haven't been back since his grandparents died so it's been a few years. I'm actually hoping to get up there this summer sometime! We are down in between Jasper and Evansville.

Thank you for the welcome!! Imagine my delight when I stumbled upon a Mary Jane magazine at Joann's yesterday! I didn't know where to find a magazine locally and I didn't know how long I would have to wait if I made a subscription, so I was very excited to find one! I pretty much devoured it last night sitting on the couch while my daughter read her new book she got. I am planning to become part of the sisterhood! It looks like great fun and a way for me to make some wonderful lasting friends. A few days ago I requested information from an apparent local chapter. But I think the chapter might not be active. I may need to look into starting my own.

Welcome Alicia! I know you're going to love it here. Where in Southern In are you? We moved to Nashville after spending our working years in the south. I'm still getting use to how different it is.
