My nine month old, William, has been nursing or asleep in my lap the times I have logged on recently, so I have only been able to hen peck with one hand quick replies to discussions already in progress...
But as he is asleep in his own bed I can now introduce myself, and wonder of wonders, use two hands to type!
William is my first baby. He has a gentle temperment and smiles constantly. He is now in the mobile phase... any lamps, pictures, books, tablecloths are attractive. So I am in the process of re-making the house into a toddler friendly area.
I work occasionaly as a tech in the ER. I truly enjoy that work, but now I am looking for something I can do with my baby alongside.
I sew, papercraft, read, and sail. My husband just put in a workspace for me. He put up a counter in a closet (we took the doors down) and set two cupboards underneath. Now, my projects no longer takeover the dining table for days at a time 
I am excited to have found this group, and look forward to visiting with all a y'all.

Welcome Lizabeth The library story really warmed my heart too. William is even touching people through cyberspace. You will really like it here, the gals are wonderful. I agree with Jenny, my kids are 15 and 17 and should still be in elementary school. I'm already having empty nest about the older one going to college next year and we haven't even completed any of the applications yet! My mother gave me great advice though when mine were ready for kindergarten " don't think of it as a loss but as a new wonderful adventure you can go with them on" that has actually helped alot. Enjoy every minute with sweet William as it will fly by.

I was telling myself about that short childhood thing today. I am on my second "set" of kids now..and I do rememeber how it goes so very fast. My grown boys are 28, 26 and 21 and they should still be in elementary school!!! My younger set are 12, 10 1/2, 10 and 9. I know they won't be little long so I like to do EVERYTHING..and today was one of those days where I was going in three different directions and all all day. In fact this whole week will be like that. BUT...I wouldn't miss this ride for the world!

Sounds like your life is on track and enjoy each day. I remember those days and how quickly they go by. I know everyone says that but my youngest turned 19 and has a place of his own. I still remember trying to sewing with him on my back and swaying to the sound of the machine so he would sleep while I finished one more project. Motherhood is the shortest/longest career you will ever love.

Holly, Thanks for asking about the projects! Currently I am working on sewing a satchel bag. I found this fun cotton fabric at a retirement community sale... it is a warm cherry pink color with sewing items as the print (a machine, thread spool, pins...); I then found a pattern for a rectangular satchel that has pleated pockets on all sides. Surprisingly I was able to purchase a co-ordinating solid pink fabric at a store, so that will be the lining for the inside of the bag and inside the pockets. I love the sewing part of making things, I used to dwadle about getting pieces cut out for my projects, but now that I have a rotary cutter and ruler, I am able to work a lot quicker.
I just completed making several birthday cards. I like making cards... since they don't take long to put together I can complete one while Wm. naps. And it is enough space to be artistic, but not so much to feel overwhelmed.
How old are your children? are you able to do creative projects? |

Lizabeth, isn't being a mother so wonderful? With my first child I wrote down everything like that. Poor Jessie (my 4th) doesn't even have her name written down in her baby book. I have learned that it is okay, you remember that stuff as a mom. I would like to hear more about the projects you work on.

It seems William is a well loved name! My husband and I thought long about what to name him. While I was pregnant, we didn't find out whether our baby was a boy or girl. We wanted a strong handsome name and usually the first comment people give us on hearing his name is "what a strong name" so we chose well!
I found out later there is a saint William, who "brought joy and peace to others in troubled times". Our baby sure does that. I took him to the library last week. I was looking at books on the shelf, and a man approached on my left, I didn't turn to look as I was trying to find what I wanted quickly to get home for Wm's nap. the man comes around to my right side and says, "your baby smiled at me" I then looked up, and noticed this man has his left eye sewn shut and thick glasses... he then says, "most children when they see me have either of two reactions, they will get frightened and look away or they'll stare. your baby smiled."
I almost cried when I heard this. to think that my Wm. could so thoroughly warm someone's heart!
It does a mama proud. But I can't claim credit for it. That's just who William is. |

Hi, Lizabeth! William sounds like a darling baby - I have a "William" myself who is 3 years old. The nursing and computer thing - the typing with one hand, I mean - can get a little slow, can't it? I know this from experience -- thinking of another mom doing it makes me smile, too! Welcome!!!

Thank you for the warm welcome, everyone.
Pennie, I am in the south west area of Washington... Olympia. I truly like this town. There are so many interesting people and shops. Not to mention the easy access to puget sound where we can sail. My husband and I would like to find property of 5 acres, and hopefully that will happen in the next 5 years. I would like William to be able to have lots of land to grow with, and I prefer a lot of space.
