It has been awhile since I have been on the forum, and boy did I miss ya'll!!!!!!!!!!! I was puttering around and my, oh, my, there are some many new farmgirls, I feel, like I am the newbie!
Not going to go through all the "this is who I am", again, just wanted to let the 'old timers' know that I say hey. Hey! See ya round!

Hey Tammy! Have thought about you a lot lately. Never did make it down to your nursery this summer as I had hoped. All is well, still busy canning and picking rasberries. Did saurkraut yesterday. Yum!
Hugs to you and Heather!

Hi Julia, I am so glad you are back. I have been away much in the last few months, but things are slowing down here at the nursery so hoping for a get together.

E-mail me when you get a chance, I hope everything is going great for you and your family.

Sincerely,
Tammy

Julia!! Glad you're back.....I'm back, too!! You're right, it does make one feel like a newbie. I'll be checking in with you about the greenhouse....am aimed to start building soon. I'd also like to chat about your canning. I've finished up my canning of the summer harvest and am wanting to try new things....like your tuna!! I did my first batch of canned chicken and chicken stock and it all came out great.

I'm with the others, too..... would spend more than paid..... how do you fight the temptation!!

Blessings
Catherine

Hi Holly! My greenhouse is a wood frame 8x10x9ft. We used nursery grade plastic.( we got it from farmtek.com) I have an old door with wood panels on the bottom and windows on top. Also have two big old paned windows on the side and back. Would have had one on the other side but it was so rotted out it feel apart. But it is such that as I find other windows, the right size, we can put them in as we go. Oh, the bottom part of the greenhouse is wood, painted white. I have lettuce and other greens growing now for winter. Plus plants for the flower garden that I am starting now.
As for canning, today I am working on the second batch of zucchini salsa. Have done green beans and canned tuna. will also make some green tomato/ chile salsa. My kitchen looks like a bomb hit it, but it is a good mess. Plus the smells are great, except when I did the tuna. Ick! Tastes good though.

Julia, I am so jealous that you built your own greenhouse. I am also very excited for you. That has been a dream of mine and I am not sure what kind, size, ect. What did you build and what are you growing? I am very anxious to here. Also , what are you canning?

Julia,
Welcome back!! I couldnt help but smile when you said where you worked! I agree with the others here that I would not bring much of the paycheck home for a bit anyway! That and a craft store or book store...and oh my!! I am so glad you are ok and have made it back in! May all continue to go well!
Hugz,
Talitha

Julia, you are right! I was lying in bed last night and thought, "I feel connected again". There is now other place I know of where so many "get it!" I love the kindred spirits here!

I totally understand Holly. It was a little more than I thought it would be as far as time and home, but I truly loved it. My boss is great. I learned so much. And yes, not all of my paycheck made it home. It did fund the building of my new greenhouse.
Thanks for the welcomes.

Julia, I am new to the group but I'm glad your back. I can totally understand how getting a "part time" job can take up more time than you think. I started last Feb. working at a local greenhouse part time while my kids were in school and preschool. I didn't think it would be a big deal, just a little extra money, but boy was I wrong. Just being away from home and not being "accessible" to my family was very hard on them. Plus the fact that we have our own business so I have to forward the house phone when I leave. I started babbling but my point was working at the greenhouse was unbelievable. It is not a fancy or high pay job, but there are so many other rewards. It was so peaceful to me (not being the owner) and I learned so much about things that I love dearly, flowers & plants. I am glad you are back in the loop and would like to here more from you.

Holly

HI Julia! I was "away" for awhile too, nice to see you back. Glad you were off having fun and travelling. Working at a nursery could seriously affect your cash flow! I would have a hard time not spending my paycheck! Nice to know you have been well and doing things you enjoy. Congrats on 25 years too! Welcome back!

with a happy heart

Well, I started working for the first time in 25 years. It was just 2 afternoons a week, at the local nursery, but it really stretched me, time wise. Then with summer, vactions, (hubby and I celebrated our 25th with a week and a half in DC, Maryland, Virginia and Pennsylvania). Things just got busy and something had to give.
But now as the season slows down, except for the canning, I will be around the forum more often. And I am glad for that!
