Hello, fellow farmgirls! I have been reading this forum for awhile now, but never actualy had time to join in. I am Trina, a soldiers wife and homeschool mama to 4 children. We live on a 4 acre place with goats, chickens, ducks, dogs, and a cat. I am in the process of learning how to make our sandy soil grow a nice garden and am currenly scrounging cinder blocks to build raised beds. Someday we hope to be totaly self-sufficient.

Oh, yeah. My farmgirl disclaimer...I am missing two of the necessary traits .
1. I am not organised (even if I were the 5 other artistic people in this house are not).
2. I do not collect anything (because of #1, I wish to live in an empty house...I'll fill it up with people I love, animals, and art supplies).

Milking time! It's great to finaly be posting here. I am looking forward to meeting you all!

Trina

Welcome Trina! My family will keep your husband and your family in our prayers. I am very excited to here more about your goats. I have been thinking about getting some. I am also trying to get to that self sufficiency state.

Welcome Trina- and thanks so much to you and your husband for BOTH of your service to our country. You matter more than a simple "thank you" could do justice. You will all be in my prayers- glad to have you here!

Trina, add my thanks to your hubby and his fellow soldiers. And to you; the spouses holding the family and household together don't get a lot of credit either! You sound like you have all the right ingredients to be farmgirl! I am worried though, is there really a list of requirements? I have not been terrific in the organized department either, and collect just a few things (anti-clutter is my best housekeeping trick).
Anyway, welcome!

Jenny, Currently I have Nubian and American Nubian milk goats. I prefer the American Nubian as they seem to be healthier and easier to maintain than the purebreeds. Next year I plan to breed in some Boer, as we use the kids we do not milk for meat.

Everybody, thankyou for the words of support of my husband. Sometimes it seems like military familys are forgotten and it is very comforting to know that we do matter! We are comming up on anothe deployment (non-combat this time...Praise the Lord!), so keep us in your prayers.

Welcome Trina!! How fun to have you here!! What breed are your goats? I just love goats and had milk goats for quite a few years before I got my cow about a year ago. I just have one little angora goat now (well, and the sheep and the cow) I love goat personalities!!
I am SOOOO not organized! I sure hope that isn't a requirement for being a farmgirl!!

Oh my, maybe I do collect a few things! I have a rather nice wardrobe of aprons (I wear one almost all the time), I cannot resist a stray animal, and I guess those mountains of fabric, yarn, and misc would have to be called a collection as well. Oh, and hats.

I guess I had the pretty farmhouse clutter in mind when I said I collected nothing. My mom, step-mom, and sister can all fill a shelf with collectables and keep it looking pretty, but whenever I try it mutates into dust covered junk so I just quit trying. I have decided that for me owning very little is best and I am painting my house in spring tones to make up for the lack of embelishments. Next time hubby is deployed (and cannot protest) I plan to try a few murials. I have learned that if I decorate it while he's gone, he comes home and loves it, but if he's home I spend more time convincing him it will look good than I do actualy creating.

Hi, Trina! Welcome to the 'Connection! It sounds like you have such a fun household - I know you'll really enjoy the gals here... Glad to have you! You know, organized in my mind just means that you can find what you're looking for when you want it - you might be organized and not even know it!

XOXO, Libbie

Hi Trina,

Welcome. Your home sounds wonderful. Organized!! Poo - I am so not organized. It's okay. Farmgirls just go with the flow. Glad to have you onboard.

Hi Trina! Welcome to the group, sounds like you have alot incommon with many of us. Nice to have you here, let us know more about you and your family.
P.S...If organization was a prerequisite, creativity could not flow freely! (Atleast for me!)

Hello Trina! You don't think you collect anything -- just wait -- soon you'll be collecting aprons/teatowels/yo-yos/books/etc. And maybe you collect animals?? Anyhoo, welcome aboard!

Welcome Trina! If organization was a prerequisite for farmgirl-ness I would fail! I try, try, try- and like you, no one else cooperates! But, that's what keeps life interesting! :)
Glad you found us!

Welcome Trina! Thanks to you and your husband for serving our country :) Sounds like you have a busy household but clearly you enjoy it, good for you! Your missing traits aren't all that necessary as I don't think I'm all that good at either of them myself...lol Glad to have you here!
