Hi everyone,
I'm brand new here and looking forward to being an active
member of the Maryjane Farmgirls community. I'm married 20 plus
years and have a teenage son who has just started college. I
love crafts and anything country.
I live in the beautiful Pacific Northwest not far from the
Canadian border. I'm a nature lover too and as you can tell by
my name, I LUV hummingbirds. We have several that have frequented
our feeders for several years now and we've even given some names.
I enjoy card making as well and baking. I've seen many interesting topics on here already and anxious to check them out.

Things are put away at our house Linda...now for the raking of leaves from the maples and ornamentals. I have seen a few hairy woodpeckers and Northern Flickers...mostly the flickers. they have been tapping on the metal electrical poles and are so funny. They sure like the black sunflower seeds I have out. I hear a couple of hootie owls at night or early in the morning. Keep our cat in until it is light out. I feel sorry for the East coast with their snow, but know that ours will be here soon enough. Getting texts from my dtr in tampa and envy a little bit her 75 degree weather. Applesaucing again this afternoon.

Thankyou for the welcomes Vikki, Julie and Claudia. Still getting
to know the forums and everyone has truly been friendly and helpful.
Great place to be.
Claudia, my husband and son finally put up all our lawn and deck
furniture for the winter last weekend. We have 100 ft. fir trees in the
woods behind our house and some winters we have seen them snap and
come tumbling down so we know to put everything up.
We love our hummers and even when there is snow they still come.
We keep the feeders de-iced and full and they are ever so thankful!
Fun to watch and such beautiful markings.
Our son spotted a barred owl on the top half of a hallowed out
tree very close to our back yard in the woods and even though it
was daytime he gave a few eerie hoots that they are known for.
(The large red hooded woodpeckers are always making new habitats
for the owls as they peck away at everything in site and we even
had to put screen at the top of our roof eaves to keep them from
damaging it!)

hands, I give with my heart ....

Hi Linda! I'm from the other end of the state. I love hummers too, and usually have about 5 feeders up, some closer to the house and 2 closer to some group of pine that they like to nest in. We always see our first hummers in April and they leave the end of August. Allen's hummingbird is our first...the reddish orange back and head feathers and then mostly ruby-throated ones.

We are getting ready for winter. I've picked up all the garden art & put it away. Today is clearing out the vegetable garden of any debris. It feels colder and we are to have a cold rain today. I'm packing away the summer shorts and shirts and digging out the long sleeved shirts and pants. So Linda, welcome to the greatest group of ladies around!

Welcom Linda from Lawson, Missour. I look watching my hummingbirds come back each year. I've decided next year to have more than one feeder. I had several fights this year, they don't like to share! Hope you find this as exciting as I do. Hope you have better luck that I have had with finding a Henhouse!

can't find a friendlier group. Looking forward to checking out

Welcome Linda from Connecticut! You will love it here at MJF, everyone is so friendly and helpful and just plain nice. Photographing hummingbirds is definitely tricky but I'll bet you have some good images. Definitely post some for us, please.

Hi Suzanne,
I did a chapter search for you (go to the main Farmgirl page, click on "farmgirl chapter" in the paragraph, it goes to Start or Join Farmgirl chapter, click on "click here to join in" at the bottom of the page click on chapter search and search by state is probably your best bet)

Here's what I found by you:
It appears there is one in Mt. Vernon, one in Stanwood, one on Camano Island, 2 in Bellingham (one is misspelled so it appears before Bellevue) and there's the one I belong to listed under Arlington. Then just click on "contact this chapter" Be warned that just because they appear in the chapter directory doesn't necessarily promise that they are active. But I know that MJ's office was working on cleaning up the rolls.

Hello and welcome from Skagit valley just north of you!
Paula, I'm looking for a chapter around here. Is the Snohomish one the closest or is there more? How do I get in contact with them?

Hi Linda,
I'm not far from you, I'm in Everett. There is NW Country Angels chapter of Farmgirls that meets. They're mostly in Granite Falls, Snohomish area. I've only been able to go once, but they are a nice group of gals if you want to get involved in that. I also have a son in college, he's in his 2nd year at Everett Comm. College and will probably transfer to WSU. My husband works in Edmonds at Crista Broadcasting. Welcome!

Thanks everyone for the warm welcomes! I already like it here and
so much to take in and so many friendly gals.
Marjean, thanks for the craft information, I'll surely be checking
that out. I love crafting.
Marilyn, Our feeders stay up year round too. Saw the most gorgeous
ruby throated hummer yesterday. We thought we would only see them in
the summer and milder months but ours kept coming even when there was
snow.
Penny, Thanks for the Georgia hugs and warm greetings.
Marianne, hello to another PNW sister, along with Trish. We
use binoculars and have a picture window right next to the feeder
on our deck. We know certain hummers by their size, markings &
habits at the feeder. We see a lot that come and go too. Might
get brave and put up nesting materials next year.
Ceejay, absolutely loved your pictures. I lived in Arvada for
a few years during jr. high and high school. What a beautiful
state. Miss the Rockies....thanks for the welcome.

Hello Linda!

We have just started to enjoy feeding the hummers . . . how do you tell that the same ones are back? I think I am going to have to pay more attention next year!!

So glad to have you at MJF.

Marianne -- also in the PNW, but inland!

Welcome Linda! You will really like it here at MJF. If you haven't already, be sure to check out the farmgirl swap section of the forum for lots of card making and craft swaps to sign up for. I live just south of you in Renton. I also love hummingbirds - Rufous and Anna's - and have feeders up for them year round.

Cheers! ~ Marilyn

Thanks Trish. Believe me, we sure have tried but they are
definitely camera shy and the ones we have taken are blurred.
That won't keep me from trying however and I will share any
successful ones on here. Oh yes during the summer months there
are art festivals, boat festivals and "Taste of Edmonds" (eating
festival...lol)

Hello Linda,
I got my dog from a shelter in Edmonds. It seems like there are alot of festivals and fun things that happen up there. You should post some pictures of your birds.
