Posted - Aug 17 2011 : 08:36:35 AM Howdy, folks. Born, bred, and raised farmgirl here. :) As I'm writing this, the chickens are currently on free range in the apple orchard. Let's see......I'm an historian with a major interest in textiles, and some of the best, in my opinion, are those that fall under the category of farmhouse textiles. As in, quilts, tatting, knitting, crochet......I do all kinds of lace and wool work, and am particularly interested in learning cultural fiber crafts like naalbinding and such. Hey, it keeps me sane while pounding on my master's thesis! I also do wildlife rehabiilitation as necessary and recently took in a stray cat as a result. Now if only the hissy fits from the other two cats would diminish a bit........

Posted - Aug 18 2011 : 05:29:16 AM Hello and welcome from Ohio!! Being born and raised in this state I know of the rich cultural heritage of the Amish. I grew up in a different area than I live in now and my family used to frequent Amish areas and markets when I was growing up. I also love Shaker, Quaker and Mennonite history, crafts and cooking.
You will love it at MJF - everyone is so nice and warm here!

Posted - Aug 18 2011 : 05:17:28 AM I'm actually from Amish Country in the Salamanca, NY area. Most of my neighbours are Old Order Amish (we're not). I sometimes get very weird looks when I show up in public with a handmade garment on......but considering I'm from a culture area which stresses working with your hands and being able to make do with what you have, I don't mind one bit. :)
