Hello Everyone-

I found a MaryJanesFarm magazine at the local bookstore, and I was hooked!

I live in Altamont, NY (not far from Albany, NY), on about 10 acres of land. It is mostly wooded, but we've cleared a large area for a vegetable and herb garden. I'm also planning on getting some egg-laying chickens in the near future.

I grew up on a small "hobby" farm, so I have some background, but I also feel like I still have a lot to learn. I was so happy to find this website!

Thanks!!!
Jennifer

Hi Jennifer,

I'm a Central New Yorker. I'm just north of the city of Syracuse. I love the Adirondacks and I would love to move to the Tupper Lake area but for various reasons, I haven't. Welcome to the forums. I'm sure you will enjoy it.

Hi Jennifer,
I am Marianne and I used to live in Altamont until 3 years ago. I grew up in Altamont. Where do you live and did you grow up there? I went to Guilderland schools and graduated in 1978. Any way, We have a farmgirl group in Hoosick falls, well kind of. Rosie is from White Creek and Susan is from Berlin and Dorothy is from East Greenbush. WE meet all over and usually it revolves around some sort of activity. You are welcome if you are interested. Even if you are not I would love to meet you sometime. My parents still live there and I drive to Altamont about once a month.
Welcome!
Marianne

Hi Jennifer,

Welcome to the forum. Your acreage sounds great. Glad you found us. I'm still learning about chickens. My friend has 6 laying hens and I'm learning a lot from her. Glad to meet you.

Howdy and hello from a former New Yorker (Ithaca). I do miss the mountainous land of the area as here in MN there are no real mountains. Welcome to a group of people who you will find are the most generous and caring around. Very glad you found us!

Welcome!!! Ten acres sounds great! What all do you have or are planning to have? I am a farm girl in "learning" lol I read everything I can...we once had a bee hive (for three years)so I know some about that, and a pony so I know a bit about that, and gardens and fruit trees so I know a bit about that...lol...but I am trying to get more then a "bit" in!
I think you will love it here! There is so much friendship and help, it is wonderful! Enjoy and see you around!
