I am new to MaryJane's Farm and I am a new homeowner in Pataskala Ohio. I have always dreamed of having a small farm and this is my time to start. My parents were the conventional grocery shopping and pizza ordering family so I have no one to show me the way. I also moved here from Florida and do not have friends or family that is less then a days drive away. I am looking for some Farm sisters to adopt me into their family and pass their grandmothers recipes and dress patterns. I can only get so much from books. On page 11 Of MaryJane's ideabook cookbook lifebook she quotes a women named Barbra "......any woman alone without friends to sustain her, to nuture and support, to hold with loving arms, like a single thread, is weak but the weaving the loving, the nurturing of others, the neworks of friendship makes her strong."

HI Solange, how is your week going? I am off today. I teach Senior fitness at a Parks and Rec/ Senior Center and do other programs there. It is so much fun and a great bunch of people.
I am going to go visit a new friend. She is into some gardening so I made up a tiny little pink planter with 3 ground covers that I have in my garden. I glued a pink bow on the container, and copied from the computer the info on how to grow the ground covers that are in there. My little welcome gift. It is so cute and I loved doing it. If you were close I would be giving you one. You have a good day and will connect later.

Solange,
I'm about 3 1/2 hours away from you. Maybe we can "meet in the middle" sometime for "tea"? : )

Ooh I was just in Columbus not a month ago visiting. :) I am always ready for a new "sister" and send a big New Jersey welcome your way! You sound a lot like me when I first found MaryJanes. I was living in Florida (near my grandmother, thankfully) and then moved to NJ (closer to my Mom) Sometimes, all you need is a little hug and some encouragement to point you in the right direction. I have sure found that here at MaryJanes. I've made quite a few friendship from here that have spilled over into more personal friendship with women, I now truly consider my dearest friends and 'adopted sisters'. Come on in, there's are always room for more!!

Welcome Solange!

What a beautiful name! I was alone when I joined MJF too - and I feel like I've got a huge adopted family now. Just jump right in on all the forums, and soon you will have a huge group of friends to communicate with. I'm sure you will find some farmgirl sisters near Columbus too that you could get together with in person.

Big Farmgirl Hugs!

Hey Solange! I am from Ohio too. I have lived in Ga for the last 27 yrs. I know what it is to be on your own. When I moved to Ga.I was in culture shock. No family or friends to help support me and my husband travled on the road for his work. I was in culture shock. I moved from an Amish town in Ohio to a big city in Ga. I cried for a week of the move but decided that if I was going to make it I needed to get on with it. AND I DID. My mom now lives near me my husband is retired and life is good. In fact I brought a lot of my culture with me and taught friends a simpler/Ohio way of life. Wishing you the best. Debra e

Welcome to the forum, Solange! And congratulations on your decision to live a better life than store-bought! Wish I was closer to you, but we can chat here. I love that quote on p.11 of MJ's Ideabook, and it is soo true! Surely there is someone closer who can take you under their wings and show you the "how-to's". Anyone listening?
