Posted - Mar 31 2011 : 08:26:01 AM Hi everyone! Decided to come on board to the forums!
Saw my name mentioned by some of you (about fiber?), last year, and just wanted to know who is here from the West Plains, or any area of Spokane?
I live a mile west and about 4 miles north of Fairchild AFB. We came here from CA about 8 years ago. My hubbie is retired Navy, so we enjoy the Base being so close. So basically we live near Airway Heights, Deep Creek, Medical Lake area.
Still adjusting to the weather, but enjoy raising Alpacas, a couple cats, spinning yarn, crocheting, crafting, growing veggies and fruits, canning, and much more! I have a small "farm store", online, at etsy.com.
Wanted to know also if there is a place here to advertise a Crochet Rag Rug Workshop I'm teaching in Spokane April 9th? If you want to know more, please email me, I'll send the info. Were do we tell about events coming up?
I would love to get to know you, and if there is a local chapter(s)? Anyone want to meet somewhere like Starbucks?
Thanks, and by for now! PacaDia the Pacadahery

Posted - Apr 01 2011 : 7:32:37 PM Hello rough start farmgirl! We will be meeting on Tues for coffee! Yeah!
Cynfullypurple- thanks for the welcome! The Fairchild AFB here is a nice place. I haven't lived there, but there is a whole community in itself there. We love to shop the Commissary for groceries, really good prices. I heard Boise ID has a nice base too. We have a friend who moved there and joined the National Guard. He loves it.
Alpacas do take a bit of time and maintenance. You need to know why you want them to help with deciding what to get. Do you want to breed them, go to shows, etc, or just have a couple for fiber pets? You'll need more than one, they get lonely and need a buddy. We sell fiber and have the fiber cleaned and turned into roving to spin or felt, or yarns to knit or crochet. We do some carding also ourselves, to make blends to spin. I've learned to train them on halters, walk them in shows, give shots, cut nails, cut teeth, breeding, birthing, shearing, etc. It really is an adventure! They are so darned cute! And soft... If you are moving, wait till you settle somewhere first, then think about it. If you want more details, email me directly, ok?

Posted - Apr 01 2011 : 4:04:50 PM Welcome from NY! I'm also a newbie here, although I've been reading MJ for 2 years now, but have become rather addicted to the forums and check them a couple times of day. I feel like I'm connected with women of like spirits and belong:) I would love to know more about your alpacas and how you got started with them and what you do with them. Been thinking about them myself. My son is in the Air Force and my dad was also career AF. My son is stationed in NJ right now, although he's actually deployed to Germany for another 3 month. They want so much to get transferred out to the Washington area and get out of NJ! I've been thinking about relocating out to ID myself.
Anyway, like I said, would love to hear more about the alpacas if you'd like to chat via email. I spin and knit also.
