Hi im a new one to spinning wheels and need some help can anyone tell me which spinning wheel would be best for a beginner. I am looking for a very basic easy spinning wheel.

If you go to the Marketplace, dgarnera in Pine Grove, CA has a spinning wheel and roving for sale. I _knew_ I had seen it somewhere! Judy

Yes the best thing to do is try as many as you can, some will feel better than others to you , you kinda have to fit the wheel, Like Aunt Jenny says, she doesnt fit the travel wheels. But they are great if you want to take them with you because they fold up and are easy to carry.
There are also all kinds of prices, I would think you might like to start out with a less expensive one to see if you really like it.
I think that the Ashford is about the lesser expensive right now. One that you dont want, and it is cheaper is the one made from PVC pipe, several people I know have them and they are starting to fall apart because of waring on the pipe.
The ashford traditional is the one I learned on and I still have it (learned in 79)and it works good, but I also have other brands to
I have 5 wheels right now and they all feel a little different.
If you can find a shop that carries several brands go in and pick thier brains. If you see someone spinning at a fair or other places, ask as many questions as you can think of. thats the best way to find out lot of info

My wheel is an Ashford Traditional and I taught myself on it. I love it. I like a single foot treadle..but some like a double treadle and there are lots of different wheels, sizes and makers. I think Michele made a great suggestion to check them all out. One thing I would suggest. ...I am not nuts about the travel size wheels for me. I am tall and not a small person so I feel uncomfortable..like I am working with a miniature when I have tried one. BUT..my sis in law is bigger than me and loves her Ashford traveler wheel..so I guess be sure to try out different wheels before you buy.

Hi Sue, welcome you will love it here. Everyone has their favorite wheel but to me one of the easiest wheels to learn on is the Louet, the S 10 to be specific. It is the one I learned on and also I use it very frequently. Schacht, which is american made is also a good wheel along w/ ashford. I will leave you a few web-sites & you can look around. Also many girls here on the forum spin and raise sheep & they will give you input as well. Good Luck.

sometimes they will send you a brochure free, sometimes for a fee. Take your time, talk to people and see if you can go to graft fairs and try a few different wheels out OR find a class.
