Hello. I have been a lurker for some time as well as a fan of Mary Jane's. I live on one acre of ground in the country, about 7 miles from town, in an old story and a half farmhouse.I love this site and I have so many questions for you that I couldnt keep "quiet" any longer. My husband and I have an only child, a daughter, who is married and expecting our second grandchild in January. I have always been curious and longing for farm life. Alot of my friends were raised on farms and think I have a romanticized vision of what farm life is truly like. That may be, but still, I don't believe I am wrong in saying that farming is honest work, and is centered on many traditional values I see slipping today: family and faith for starters. I am so looking forward to being a part of this forum!

Hi moe -- I was born and raised in IL too -- Virden. I have relatives that live in Carbondale. Glad you're here and not lurking anymore!!!!

Hi Moe,
Great to see someone else from Illinois, with a great view of farm life. We are trying to raise our kids the way I was raised, on a farm with hard work but so many wonderful rewards with the animals and such. Today's society needs to slow down and look at why there is so much wrong today. Traditional values have been shoved aside in the hustle and bustle of a dog eat dog world. Welcome to a little slice of sanity in a wild world. Everyone on this forum seems to realize just how precious traditional down home life really is. And you don't have to have a farm to have it. It is nice to know that there are still good people out there to be found. Hopefully I haven't upset any one by any comments here, but it is the way I feel. Hope to hear more from you. And again Welcome.

I so know where Edwardsville is! Sometimes I think if I could just be in two places at once! I miss those mid-western open fields, and all those farms you can see for miles.
I have driven many times I-55 and the distance between St. Louis and Springfield and so Edwardsville is very familiar! Many times, tho, I like to drive north on 4 and go through the small towns of Staunton, etc. Hello fellow Illinoisian!

Thankyou for the warm welcome! I don't think I could ever move back into "town". The stars are sooo much brighter here ! JPBluesky, I am just an hour away from Springfield in Edwardsville in case you know where that is.

Welcome Moe! I'm trying real hard to be a grandma....those things happen in God's good time. Yes indeed, family and faith. I'm on 6.5 acres, 5 miles from town. We love it out in the country where all we see is corn, soybeans and alfalfa. Glad you decided to join us!

Moe - I was born and raised in Illinois (Springfield) and have yearned for farm life forever. I too have an only daughter with children. I too have been realistic enough to know that farm life is not romantic, but to me it will always be. I am glad you are here. Welcome!

I am a 'gentlewoman' farmgirl .. no farm animals ... (we travel a lot!) .. and i just dabble at the easier farm chores. (gardening, baking, putting food 'by', crafting). This is the life for me! Our daughter too, is expecting her second child .. but a little earlier than yours .. come September! GRANDS are such a delight! xo, frannie

welcome Moe!! You sound like such a nice person..and I think a romanticized vision of farm life is fine. I try to make my life here on my little mini farm the way I want it..and I guess that is a little romanticized. But thats okay. I love the work involved and I think you are right ..it is great for centering the family on what they should be centered on!!
