Posted - Sep 14 2010 : 9:44:17 PM Hello all, I signed up a while ago but am just now saying hello and having a browse through the site. I'm from mid-northern BC, Canada. We're physically in the middle of the province but we're at the start(in my opinion) of the "wild north". There's lots to look at and to read on this site, and find it hard to gather the time to sit and enjoy and keep up. I'm really here because I have a question and am not sure where to post it. I'll put it here and maybe somewhere else that looks suitable. I'm interested in buying a grain grinder, I want it to be hand powered, and reasonable in price, but also to be easy to use and grind grain fine enough to make flour. Does anybody have any suggestions from personal experience? Thanks in advance, M

Posted - Sep 17 2010 : 03:54:44 AM Just wanted to add that my hand grinder gets it very fine. Almost too much for the recipe I use. I need to add more flour I think. The WM has settings I can change.

Posted - Sep 16 2010 : 6:19:56 PM Hi Migon. Welcome from Ga. When I first started grinding grain for our bread about 11 years ago I got a Back To Basics hand grinder. I liked it but it took a long time to grind 6 cups of flour. So I got a Whisper Mill electric grinder. Just recently I got the hand grinder back out because the WM is tearing up at the top. So I have been using it again. I am liking the workout I am getting in my arms! I think back then I paid $65.00 for it. You could try looking on Craig's List for one.

Yes I saw the thread but it seems to only talk to about the country living mill, I would like opinions on other mills as well.
