Posted - Sep 06 2010 : 7:25:47 PM Hi!
My name is Christy, I'm 29 and live between central La and northern La. My dream is to have a small scale farm for family and a bit of profit- we'll eat all we can and sell the rest, basically I taught myself to knit and crochet, I learned to sew by hand when I was about 3, need to learn/improve my machine sewing abilities, and I love to read, cook, bake, draw and listen to music. Also, my fiance, Brian, and I have four spoiled cats and a Westie. I hope that when my farm dreams are realized, they'll include chickens, ducks, sheep, goats, a cow or two, a horse or two and maybe a pig. Whether for meat or not is still undecided
I started the Quitman, La farmgirl chapter, the Backyard Farmgirls. Hopefully soon I'll be able to recruit members other than myself. I seem to have had a lot going on around me in the last two years; I hope that calms down very soon and I'm able to do some things for myself. So hi from Louisiana! I hope to learn a lot here and hopefully return the favor |

Posted - Sep 19 2010 : 07:20:36 AM Hi Christy. Welcome to the forum. I am so sorry for the loss of your aunt. She was very young. I guess keeping a 4 year old has kept you quite busy. They do wear a person out quick.

Posted - Sep 18 2010 : 10:00:27 PM thanks all. sorry for not being around to post, my (very large extended) family is going through the loss of one of my aunts. she recently found out she had cancer, and after a very short and painful bout, she left us last night. she was only in her mid-forties, and has a soon to be ten year old son, and a step-son from my uncle's first marriage. she was friendly, creative, and well traveled, and i am sorry i didn't get to know her better (but as is sometimes the case, i did genuinely like her better than a few people i am connected to by blood! guess that's part of being one in a large family.)
my future parenting abilities have also been tested this week, as i have been caring for the four year old daughter of one of my cousins, all day, all night...did i mention this cousin is at home in arkansas, and i'm at home one state below her? i'm exhausted and wishing we lived next door to a park but i think when the time comes for my own kiddos, i'll be ok. sorry to babble this coming week is going to be a whirlwind of sadness and activity and wishing it didn't take a funeral to bring us together. so that's where i am right now. feels nice to get that off my chest. thanks for reading!
