Hello everyone. My name is Doreen Frost and I am from W. Pawlet, Vermont. I just came upon MaryJanes book and magazine for the first time this past friday...i love them....bought them both....I live here in Vermont with my husband Mark, 17 year old son Kurt and 20 year old daughter Jenna. I have always been a farmgirl at heart. We have 10 acres here with our home, a medium vegt. garden and several flower and herb beds. We tap our trees in springtime and have a small sugarhouse where we make...what i think is the best maple syrup you will find....ANYWHERE.....all we are lacking for a complete farm (in my eyes) is livestock. I want chickens, sheep and goats....(my husband is a little slow coming around to this:)!) I also am an artist and make primitive folk art....I LOVE IT. Take care and hope to chat with many of you soon. doreen

Cherri,

Hello. How did you make out with your chickens? I would love any stories/advice, etc. Housing, all that good stuff. I posted something in the barnyard buddies area...but no one has responded to it. Take care and thanks for the compliments on my work.

Doreen, I felt like you did...the first thing we had to get when we moved here to the farm was chickens. A farm's just not complete without them! Your folk art is sooo cute! I look forward to seeing your aprons, can hardly wait! Glad to meet ya! ~Cherri~

Welcome, Doreen,

M-m-m-m-m Maple syrup, we love maple syrup. How wonderful to make it fresh. Sorry that it's not such a good year, but from the looks of your website and all your folk-art, you won't be sitting around waiting too long for the trees to heal. It looks like you are always busy with lots of areas of interest.

Which means you will fit in here just perfectly. I'm so glad you found MJF and the forum. I know you will love all the posts and all the friendly online chatting. It's almost as good as having tea in person. Although we certainly talk about doing that alot, this is the next best thing. Everyone is so helpful, friendly and generous with their talents, resources, advice and warm hearts, you will find yourself at home instantly.

Blessings on your business and healing for your trees.

In His hands,
Lynda L.

Pray in faith and you will not live in doubt.

Karin, Thank you for your compliments on my folk art and taking the time to look at my stuff. I also love mama crow...she was one of my first creations.

Janet, Thank you for also for taking the time to look at my stuff. I loved making Rupert (he is named after the town our property borders and the town where my church is), he is one of my newest creations and i love him.

Libbie, Thank you for looking at and complimenting my folk art. The basket of berries has been very popular, they were my favorite to make..they are pretty simple. I happened upon those berry baskets at a barn sale down the road. They were inside a very old wooden crate that my husband says was used for transporting chickens to auction :)...it was packed full of berry baskets....so now......i am busy thinking of ideas to make use of them.

My next thing i am working on is APRONS......THEY ARE SOMETHING THAT I HAVE ALWAYS BEEN DRAWN TO....BECAUSE OF MY GRAM......and the other day at a town wide lawn sale i purchased a huge box of vintage linens....FOR $10............i plan to use some for the aprons and some as clothing for my folk art dolls (which are not on the site right now) AND....in this box of aprons was 3....vintage aprons....one was the same harvest apron design that is in maryjanes book :)needlesstosay.....i was thilled with my bargins for the day :) I am also going to try my hand at making skirts. I am rambling....i apoloigize :)......

Michele. What area of Vermont are you moving to? You will love it here..in my opinion there is no place on earth more peaceful.

TAKE CARE EVERYONE

Kathy, thank you for your welcome. I definately feel Vermont is the most beautiful state. It is fantastic here. I checked out your site. It is lovely. You are a beautiful writer. I would love to have goats. It is something i have been thinking about. I am going to start with chickens and work my way up. My herbs.......I LOVE THEM.......let's see...lavender, bee balm, lemon balm, basil, oregano, rosemary, thyme, mint, choc. mint. I am sure there are others..but at the moment...it escapes me.

The tea cup/saucer exchange sounds wonderful....i can't wait to be a part of it. I have found everyone on her to be great...everyone is so warm and welcoming.

Take care

Welcome Doreen! What a lovely name you have, and the Frost is fitting for Vermont! I hear that is one of the most lovely states of all. I am over here in the Garden State of NJ.
Sounds like you have an idyllic place - what types of herbs do you grow? Do you make much with them?
You just have to have goats, they are characters! I have an older plain goat, Maybelline the Barnyard Queen, and a baby Nubian goat named Billy Bahh Bahh - I have raised him since he was a few days old, he is a rescue. He thinks I am his momma and he is so cute, I love when I am out of his sight outside and he screams to the top of his little lungs for me. Email me so I can show him to you - you will fall in love for sure!
Make sure you get in on our teacup/saucer exchange and get on the Collector's Treasure Chest so we all know what you collect, we will all be on the lookout for things to send you - little gifts. You will find the girls on here neighborly and they love to share.
So, a great big welcome to you!

debbie,

Thank you so much for your lovely welcome.....and a very big thank you for your compliments on my folk art.

The Crowsoup site can be a little confusing at first...they really should have something like...list of artist..rather than crafters market magazine..doesn't make it very easy to figure out in my opinion....ANYWAY....thank you very much.

By the way...we would love to have you come and visit us and see us make syrup...we usually have lots of visitors during sugaring time. This year was not a very good year for us...production wise...the tent catepilars really hit this area very hard last summer and damaged a large portion of our trees....i shouldn't say damaged...it stressed the trees....and when they are stressed you don't want to tap them as it will cause further stress...so...needless to say, we did not make nearly as much syrup as we usually do. Also..the weather was weird here in March so it shortened the season. Anyway...take care and hope to chat with you soon. doreen

Doreen,

Welcome. I love Vermont! How great that you get to live on 10 acres and live the farmgirl life. Would love to watch you all make the maple syrup. Yum. I tried to look at some of your folkart on the crowsoup website. Where exactly is your site? Thanks.
