Posted - Jul 24 2010 : 07:58:47 AM Hello ladies,
It seems to have been forever since I have been here, so I thought I would jump on again. So much has happened in the past year, that I am wondering where to start. My son (who has been deaf and mute since birth) has graduated high school. He went through the regular school system and made me so proud. He won three bursaries, which paid his first year tuition in full. He is taking carpentry. I am now a grandmother of three WONDERFUL children. Oh, and one day in Dec I woke up and could not hear. I thought I had a cold, but turns out nerve deafness. I am going in for surgery July 28 for the cochlear implant. Still working as a Shift Manager for Tim Horton's. I have been checking out some posts, and will be putting in my two cents worth before long....hehehe Glad to be back, and can't wait to see more.

Sorry to hear that you are experiencing nerve deafness. That must have been very scary. But I am so glad that the cochlear implant works for you!

Posted - Jul 24 2010 : 09:57:06 AM Welcome back, Mary Jane. That's great about your son. So what are bursaries? Are they like a scholarship or grant? Anyway, it's gotta be something good. And I hope your surgery goes well and you can hear again.

Posted - Jul 24 2010 : 09:07:52 AM That is so great about your son. My Uncle went deaf after an illness as a child. He taught me English sign language when I was in my 20's. I used to interpret at our congregation for 5 years. Tell him congrats for me!
