Posted - Jul 19 2010 : 4:18:28 PM I am not sure if i am a farmgirl. I was raised in the city, but spent summers with both grannys farming and such.
I have 2 acers outside of Dallas. I love it here. I am raising a couple of cows with my neighbors. I have bought 2 steers for them and all 4 cows graze 6 acres suronding our properities. One of the steers is about to go to the freezer.
I have just built a henhouse and coop and have ordered chicks from My Pet Chicken. I cant wait till i start getting eggs. I have 2 small square foot gardens on either side of the henhouse that are fenced so that the chicken can help with my gardening. I am just starting with the gardening thing, but with a modified square foot garden plan I should be able to grow some nice veggies for the family.
I have a zoo here. I have 6 dogs, 4 cats, 3 orphaned kitten(they really need homes), 2 dumbo fancy rats, and 12 ferrets. yes 12. 6 are my personal ferrets and 6 are fosters. I am a ferret foster mom for the Texas Ferret Lovers Rescue. Among all this i have the cows and now 3 week old chicks and the rest of my chicks coming next week.
I am tired of shoping at the grocery store for tasteless food. I shop at a weekly local farmers market till my gardens get going good. I want to grow and raise my own food. I remember the stuff that use to come out my grannys garden and want the same for my family.
Here of late i have been on line a lot, if anyone would care to chat please feel free to message me. I have all major messengers id is ryvenblackheart on all. thanks, angie and her zoo

Posted - Aug 22 2010 : 07:16:22 AM A BIG Farmgirl Hug & Welcome to'Ya! Yup...You're a Farmgal all right. Ya love animals...and good home-grown food. Ya have "Taste & Spunk." I would love to see your Dumbo-Fancy Rats! I love rats. Have had them since H.S.(I'm 55 now-still love the 'lil Squeakers)A great pocket-pet. Right now I have my first Hairless. She's 6 Mo. old and if she were hairy(DH thought she was a boy and named her Harry...she don't care.haha) she'd be blk&wht hooded. Her whiskers are tightly curled and she carries her tail curled over her back. She has big ears so I think there's some dumbo in there somewhere. LOL I've had house-bunnies since the late 80's too, but I just lost my last one in March. He was 9 1/2. These gals were great at helping me thru it. Wish I had found this website earlier. These are a great bunch of girls. You will enjoy it here as much as I do, I'm sure of it!

We're all farmgirls at heart, no matter how big, or small, or place is - or even if we don't have a farm at all (like me)!
