Hello! I am excited to have found this message board, I already have learned alot by reading the threads. Went to Wal-Mart tonight bought the Ball Blue book on Preserving, thanks to the one who recommended that book~!

My name is Michelle, 33 years old, married, live in middle Tennessee and love quilting, knitting, reading, scrapbooking, beads, dying fabric, yes, my hobbies consume my free time. We have a small, farm we live on, I don't know if you can even call it a farm really, 3.27 acres, a huge old red barn, a donkey named Mutt and Lab who goes by Baxter. My sister and I inherited a 40 acre farm but neither one of us live there, our parents live in the farm house to keep an eye on things for us.

I grew up on a huge Dairy/Truck Patch farm with six other siblings but since leaving home have stayed as far away from dirt and sweating as as I could go, but this year things have changed. After having my nephew who is now 8 mos old with us, I started remembering how it good it was grow up on a farm with my six siblings and want that for him too. Bless his heart! lol So, this is my first year to be planting a big garden with plans to can and freeze alot of stuff. I can't believe I actually want to do this and am getting so excited!!

I hope to learn alot here from you all, thanks for sharing your knowledge on this board for those of us that are a little rusty in the preserving department.

I was so amazed by the Name reading Pat is doing, maybe someday she can do my name, I have never had anything like that done before. Kinda scary but it was interesting to read your replies to how she described you! Intersting stuff, so glad I found this forum!

Cheers, Michelle

Hi everyone, We need to meet my son in Tenn. around june 3rd to have his daughter and her cousin go down to florida with him and his step son will come back with us to Iowa to stay with his dad. We won't have time to do any tourist things so were looking for a small town near nashville to meet. we thought of goodlettsville and wondered if there are any camp grounds there. With the price of gas we are thinking it would be cheaper to stay in a motel. Can you tell me what motels are in goodlettsville. I found one a rodeway inn. thanks in advance.

Michelle, I saw your post on my blog, and was happy to hear from you! Nice to see a member on here I have met in person already. Looking forward to seeing you again. Love that you're into canning (or getting into it!). Something I would like to learn myself. You will LOVE this site...so many friendly, warm people and tons of great advice. This forum saved me when I first moved to Sparta and didn't know a soul...everytime I logged on, I felt surrounded by friends. When you work your way through the posts, you will probably read about the potato sourdough starter...if you want some, I can give it to you. I was one of the lucky ones to have it sent to me, and I would be happy to pass some on to you. Glad to reconnect with you! Lisa

Welcome, Michelle! We have a small place too, but love it. I can't wait to get to know you.

Not how long, but how well you have lived is the main thing.

Peggy,

I use to live in Gallatin six years ago, Goodlettsville is a nice area too. I loved Rivergate for shopping.

What is a CSA garden?? Don't I have heard of that before.

Hi Michelle and welcome! I've always wanted to live on a farm but didn't REALLY get into until a couple years ago, now there is no stopping me . I'm sure you will love it here and I'm glad you're here to chat!!!

Hi Michelle, I live in Tennessee also. We are just north of Nashville in Goodlettsville. The weather as been so nice here the past few days. My Husband and I own an organic farm and have a pot bellie pig named baxter. I do a lot of canning and preserving due to our CSA garden and what we have left over from our farm market.

I know you will enjoy your garden and when this next winter comes you can just reach inside your pantry or freezer and get a taste of your summers bounty.

Best Wishes,
Peggy

Thank you for the warm welcome! There seems to be alot of wonderful people here, I have read love and support all around for each other. So nice.

I found this forum by putting in the search engine "canning green beans"..lol...what a pleasant surprise I found!

I work full time in the corporate world, so I am realizing more and more how important it is for me to get back to Nature, and find myself again after running as far as possible away from the "farm" as I could. So its so nice to find other peple doing the same thing.

You would think I grew up a city girl the way I have lived for the past 14 years, no brown eggs, little meat, I don't know eating an animal you know is something I don't think I could do again or eat brown eggs..lol...but I am trying, I repeat TRYING to reprogram my brain, cause I really desire to get back to a more slower pace while I am at home. Told DH who wants to buy a cow, well, it better be for a pet, cause we can't raise him to eat so not sure if we will be getting a cow or two anytime soon. Also, found that you can buy chickens who lay WHITE eggs so am talking now with DH about if Chickens would be a good adddition to our little farm.

So, thanks again for the welcome, look forward to getting to know all of you!!

Hugs, Michelle

Welcome Michelle!!

So glad to have you join in....you will make lots of friends and have lots of fun. I'm like Jenny, I have "One Acre Farm" but push it to its limits on what I can produce out of it. Your 3 acres will be a good training before you head to that 40 acres!! Wow!

I also strayed away from my farmlife beginnings for a while and then came right back to them. You are certainly doing a great thing for your nephew.....and yourself!

Can't wait to hear more.

Blessings
Catherine

Welcome Michelle! Hey you are going to fit right in here!! I have a smaller property than you and I like to consider it a farm (mini farm) it is just in how you look at it I suppose. I loook forward to hearing more from you...you sound like one of us already!!

Welcome, Michelle! I don't know where in the state you are, but I'm just 2 hours or so from Memphis (even though I'm 2 states away!), and we go through there quite often on our way to see our son at college. Anyway, I look forward to getting to know you here.

Btw, I love the pets' names!
