Hello farmgirls!

I've been waiting for just the right time to drop in and visit with you gals. I've lurked a bit and tried to read as many old posts as possible, and it became apparent I'd need to get ahold of Mary Janes book or some of the mags before I could keep up with the conversation here.

So, I ordered the book and 2 of the oldest mags available. And then I waited. And I waited. And I waited. I figured out how to check on my order. It was on its way. Yeah! Then I waited some more, my order was delayed. Then it was left on the loading dock not 40 miles from its new home. Then it was a weekend. Then it was a holiday. Just when I was about to give up, I heard that big brown truck turn into our sandy lane. (Funny how you can tell its brown just from the sound!) It was here! I ran outside to get my box and hug Mr brown (not really!).

I ripped into that box so fast, tape flew everywhere. What a book! I love it, it just like a visit from an old friend or a chat with my dearly departed Granny. I could tell right away this would be a 'cover-to-cover' read, but it'd have to wait since I had a pot of chili on that needed stirring and my sweet hubby (I'll ya about him in a minute) was going get home before dark for once. He'd already called and claimed he could smell that homemade chili over the phone, so I sure didn't want to forget it while I got lost in a book.

So now, the chili dishes are all cleaned up and hubby's asleep for over an hour already. I've looked at the mags and Mary Janes book some more and thought I'd better jump right in and tell you all about me and mine....

My name is Jackie, and I'm as the French say 'a woman of a certain age'. I chose farmfilly as my moniker because I have no biological children and heck, its sounds better than old grey mare! Some days I'm as young as can be and some days not.

I'm married just 2 1/2 years to the sweetest big old teddy bear of a man you ever met. His name is Jerry. He's not perfect, mind you, but he's a close facimile. This is a second marriage for both of us after being single for years, me 7 and him 10 yrs. Most days we think we are pretty lucky. (Some days we are old and cranky!)

We live on 16 acres and have a couple of calves and a flock of chickens right now. In fact, I wouldn't agree to marry the teddy bear until he built a coop for my baby chicks. I figured that was a true measure of committment!
We also have 3 dogs, all rescue. A boxer JoJo, a mutt Susie, and my little house companion, Kaspar, who is a mini schnauzer. We call him Tooter most of the time, and he is a toot!

We recently bought another place on 5 acres and are remodleing the house to move into. I hope it big enough for all our stuff, so we can have our place instead of my house and his house.

I love to quilt and sew. I used to do stained glass work, but don't have a space for that yet or for my oil painting. I'm a big reader, not much of a tv watcher and love music. I love chickens, have eggs in the incubator now and some babies ordered for spring. I hope to get a few hair sheep when we get settled in the new place. I used to have and ride horses, but those days are over according to my bad knees. Maybe someday I'll get a driving rig and another horse. A doctors buggy would be fun to take to town.

Anyway, that's a little about me. I can talk a lot or be pretty quiet. You got me on a talkative night. (Oh yeah, I'm something of an insomniac, menapause I guess, so I can be posting at any hour!)
Can't wait to get to know everyone.

Jackie

Jackie, my hunkman is gonna love those details!! Boxing...that's another thing mine loves, too. He gets all cute when he tells about his time boxing with the Golden Gloves. He may have been a teenager, but by golly, that counts! (in his mind!! ha ha)

Blessings

Catherine my hubby said yes, he played football - about 40 yrs ago!
He grew up just a walk from the Harris'of boxing fame. He was in the class with one of the Harris girls, and he said it was a big deal to get to box out in old man Harris's ring. I wish you could see him tell about it, he's so cute when he raises one eyebrow and those eyes start twinkling. He says it was quite a badge of honor to sport a black eye or scuffed cheek to school on Monday. All the high school girls knew you'd been boxing and were very impressed!

Thank you Rose for the warm welcome. I sure like this neighborhood!

Hey Jackie!!

Ya' don't get to meet many people from Cut and Shoot. Did hubby play football? My hubby is a Texas highschool football fanatic. I'm sure he'll ask me that question as soon as I tell him where y'all are from. He can quote scores and names of players for the last 20 years. I'm so amazed when he gets to talkin' with someone and they banter back and forth about plays and players.

We head up to Tyler once a year for a family reunion....we just might have to take a little side trip to Gilmer!!

Blessings

Thanks Nancy Jo for the warm welcome. I feel a real kinship to you already, I don't know many people that enjoy ironing like me!

Catherine, its nice to see another Texas gal on here. I was born in Conroe, just north of Houston, but not raised there, except for a 2 year stint during gradeschool when we lived in Houston. I have family still in the Harden/ Liberty area and some in Conroe to. My hubby is from Cut and Shoot. We were born in the same hospital.
Don't worry, I've been called worse than a 'sewer', but seamtress does look better, huh? I think I'll be joining your holiday group for the easter/passover exchange. Looking forward to that.
Oh, I forgot to say Gilmer is on HWY 271 north of Tyler and Longview and south of Mt Pleasant.

Later ladies!

Hey Jackie!!

Glad to have ya' here. You will be a certain must read for me every time I see your name posted...you're a good story teller. You're a quilter and sewer.....hhhhmmmm, we just might be in a future project together!

Okay, that looks awful....sewer....let's change that to seamstress!! I sure didn't mean to insult a fella' farmgal!!!

Blessings
Catherine

P.S. I'm in the Houston area....where is Gilmer? And, I think there is another farmgal from Gilmer.

Good morning ladies, and thanks so much for the warm welcome! You girls sure make a gal feel at home. That was one of the things I liked about this place as soon as I found it. It felt like a sisterhood, with its main goal just to have fun and encourage one another! I figure there's plenty enough fussin' going on in this old world without me finding another place to listen to it, so I sure was glad to find you gals!

Aunt Jenny, I've been watching your thread about Mona. In fact, I can't believe I checked this thread before going there to check on her first. What fun its been so far, and I can't wait for the new one to get here.

lonestargal, don't get too envious about the coop building, I'll probably be building the next one myself! Himself thinks I'm a little too particular (my Dad was a carpenter, as well as my ex), and I think trim carpentry is not done with a chainsaw! I have to confess, I do 'mess' with him just a bit when we are working on projects. He's not real patient and he gets too serious when he's working on something. I know I shouldn't, but I like to wait till he's really nearly finished and then announce thats not what I wanted. He just gets this look that cracks me up, and then I start laughing. He didn't laugh much the first time (the engagement coop)but he does now when he realizes I'm kidding. I'm not sure why it still works everytime, except he just aims to please. He told me he considered it his job to spoil me, and he's doing good so far!

Hi Miz Frannie. Thanks for the welcome. You know its funny you'd call me Miz Jackie, half our friends call me that, even my neighbors say Miz Jackie. Back where I was raised and lived for the 1st forty years a huge amount of people say Miz Jackie or Aunt Lynne (My Dad is Jackie too, so family use my middle name). I raised one of my great nieces for 3 yrs and all her little friends said Aunt Lynne. They still do even though all those kids are nearly grown now and I met them when they were in kindergarten.

Well, sisters, I'm starting to get long winded again, and I haven't even checked on Mona this morning. I need to scoot along!

Thanks again for the welcome!

Jackie
