Posted - Jan 27 2006 : 8:37:30 PM Hi! We're the Pink Ladies farmgirl chapter from Vashon Island, WA. We started our chapter at Farm Fair last year, but are just now joining the farmgirl chats. Right now our chapter consists of the four of us girls from our family- me (adrianne), my mom debbie, my sister natalie, and my 4 yr old daughter, aurora. we have a couple of friends interested, as well as some farmgirls from a neighboring town. We're hoping to all get together soon & do our journal. We've always known we were farmgirls, we just didn't know how many others there were until we picked up a MJF magazine! We are planning on coming to the farmgirl sleepover at the farm on July 1st & hope to make lots of new friends there! If anyone is in our neck of the woods & not yet in a farmgirl chapter, we welcome you w/ open arms! |

Posted - Jan 28 2006 : 3:58:33 PM hi randi .. we were sooooooooooo lucky .. the stearns .. who lived here and brought the cabins to their 'glory' sold cabin creek farm a couple years ago to a guy who buys homes for 're-sell'. (hannah tells me they wanted this to be their 'forever' home .. but circumstances in their lives just changed and they had to sell.
they were not happy that it immediately sold for DOUBLE what they got for it!Brad said he knew a 'sucker yankee' would fall in love with the farm and pay what he was asking!) he knew cuz' ... HE is a 'sucker yankee' from YOUR STATE .. New Jersey ... and did the same thing! Brad and Cindy (their names) have enticed other new jersey-ites to move here too! He and his wife have become best friends to us since moving here too .. that is the 'icing' on the cake!
Art and Hannah moved to Indiana .. for a couple years .. but just in the last couple months moved back to Green County (not far from us) she has a WONDERFUL folk-art shoppe in town. They moved into a little brick home 'in-town' .. to be near their daughter and her family).
cabin creek is decorated pretty much like hannah had it .. only i don't do as much white 'shabby chic' (do have some though) .. and actually, i've been told that when these magazines do a 'shoot' .. they often bring in furniture and re-arrange everything. i also have lots more 'country clutter' than she did. at one time .. only the original cabin was here and art and hannah and their daughter and her son all lived in this TWO-ROOM cabin .. it has an upstairs and a downstairs (and a little 'lean-to' that was their kitchen and bathroom .. i have no idea where the daughter and child slept. then they moved the lower cabin (circa 1876).. to the property and the Stearns' pretty much put it together themselves. they said when they came upon it (about twenty miles away) .. the owners were pulling down a house and discovered the cabin under all the siding and were getting ready to BURN it to the ground! THEY built the barn that was on the cover of Country Living and looks like it is a hundred years old OUTSIDE .. inside it is unfinished .. but this spring, we are having it 'finished' inside. it will still be a work-out room and workshop (HA! i won't let hank hold a FLASHLIGHT for fear he'll electrocute himself!) so .. it will still be pretty much an 'out-building' .. although .. a nice finished one. we found a most marvelous couple here that understands PRIMITIVE .. for that fact, the woman is the 'brains' of the operation ... she can figure out just about anything. she has a wonderful antiques booth at the mall where my booth is. we have become great friends. they have also built a 'shower-deck' (with hot and cold running water .. open to god, the sky and all who wander down the hill!!!)
funny story .. i may have told it before .. but in case you didn't read it ... one day last summer, i came driving down the hill to our cabins .. and there sat honey hunk on the front porch in a big 'ole rocking chair .. with his feet up on the railing ... smoking a big CEE-GAR (and he is NOT a smoker!) .. he had on his beloved Boston Red Sox baseball cap .. and his birthday suit! yep! buck nekked! i 'bout peed my pants! ran to get the camera and started snapping. (lots of our "lawyer" friends back in the d.c. area would always ask me if hank was loving kentucky as much as i do. (Hank was an Environmental Attorney with the U.S. Department of Justice and actually was the 'boss' in the Indian Resources Section! I marked the photos: EXHIBIT ONE and EXHIBIT TWO .. and shot them to ALL our friends all over the country! (I told them if they were not 'faint of heart' and wanted to see EXHIBIT THREE .. they would have to e-mail me!)
WELL .. hank got up and asked me if i wanted to feel something really nice. Lordy! I quickly exclaimed: 'NOT IN THE FRONT YARD'!!! But by the time i glanced over at him .. THAT is not what he was speaking of .. he had the garden hose in hand and was running water over his head and body! (It WAS a HOT day!) Ha! in more ways than one!
Well, anyhoo .. i told him that if he was going to shower outside .. it was going to be in the BACK yard! WHAT if i'd brought home a van full of church ladies i asked. He just laughed and said .. they'd be prayin' for him in church the next sunday!
We had a wonderful big deck attached to the back of the barn .. it is open on three sides .. but you really do have to get out of your car and walk around back to 'see the show'! Neither of us took an INDOOR shower all summer long!
plan a trip down 'south' someday to come visit us! xo, frannie
