Howdy! Me here, Elsie, just stopping by to say this place is pretty neat and I can't wait to meet y'all. I grew up on a farm and I while I live in town now, I am and always will be a farmgirl at heart. Looking forward to wandering around the site and learning all sorts of kewl new things.

Homecooked is best, but I go out to eat to get some rest.

I see it has been awhile for any posts on here but do any of you gals from Nebraska have any pointers to someone who might be moving there. My husband might have a job in Scottsbluff. He has gotten to see the area, but I haven't. I'm excited since it will mean I will hopefully get to stay home with our kids finally. I've been working while he finished up grad school and worked part time. What is the gardening like in western Nebraska? Anyone have a favorite community?

I'm from Montana so I have no idea what we might be getting into. I've been to eastern WY so I'd imagine similar but... Any help, tips, pointers, or opinions would be appreciated.

Kewl - great to meet a fellow Nebraskan - I know a lot of the small towns in that part of the state, where exactly are you from?

Hi Cheryl! I haven't been on in a while, but am excited to see another Farmgirl from Nebraska (there are only a few of us on here)! I live in south central Nebraska, about 15 minutes from Hastings. I look forward to seeing you around here!

Hi there! Would you rather be called Elsie or Cheryl?
What other forums/topics are you posting on?.....
I'm new so I usually only just check one or two.

Anyway, welcome to MJ's!

In case anyone is interested my Maryjane name is Elsie, after Elsie the Borden Cow, because after I deliverd my babies, I always had so much milk that's what the nurses nicknamed me. But my christened name is Cheryl.

Okay, you asked about me so here it goes. Item number one where is Ashland we are located exactly 30 minutes between Lincoln and Omaha, we are approximately 45 minutes from the Nebraska Iowa border. I am the mom of 4 children. Boy 17, girl 13, girl 12, and boy 9. I grew up on a farm and loved it. I technically live in town, but don't really think so. We live in a new development with very few homes around us, in fact we have one next door and are surrounded by alfalfa field for as far as you can see, except for when you stand on our deck and look out to the back yard, then you see a pasture with horses, and another farmstead of alfalfa. I stay home at nurse, taxi, discipline, and raise my children. I am involved in several groups in our community but the two that mean the most to me right now are the 4-H club, and the Coalition for Education and Prevention. Which is a group of community leaders, parents and students, working to educate the community, schools, everyone about the importance of responsible drinking, safe sex, bullying, etc. It is a slow process but we hope to make a difference. It is my theory that every life we reach is a life we save, now I will get off my soapbox. I love to cook, sew, and paint. I try to feed my family wonderful meals without breaking the bank. I have instilled some old fashioned traits in my children including, gardening, canning, sewing, cooking, budgeting and baking. When I am not busy with my other projects I work part time from my home for a local business. That's me in a nutshell, now don't you wish you wouldn't have asked.

Homecooked is best, but I go out to eat to get some rest.

Hi, Elsie!

Welcome to the forum!

I check the boards every few days but don't usually post. I did want you to know how welcome you are, though!

Where in Nebraska is Ashland? I've been through your state a few times. My favorite part is the Pine Ridge area.

Have you found any topics that interest you? I regularly check the Welcome Wagon, Barnyard Buddies, and Outpost.

Hi Elsie!

Sorry I am not from Nebraska, but I wanted to say Hi and welcome! I know there are a couple other farmgirls from your state on here, maybe they just missed your first post. So what do you like to do out there in Nebraska? I am married to a farmer and I am a stay-at-home mom of 2 boys, one is 2, the other is 2 months. I love to garden and cook when I get the time. So glad you joined us, please stay and tell us more about yourself!

Wow, I guess maybe people from Nebraska aren't wanted here. I was really hoping to find some people with the same needs and issues as we are facing. But since it would appear no one wants to chat with me maybe I should go somewhere else. Will wait another month and see what happens.
