I picked up the 'She's a Keeper' MJF mag at an eco friendly shop downtown, where we do magazine exchanges. I'm a Farm Girl wannabe!! My name is Leslie, stay at home mom to two boys ages 16 & 8, child care provider to two little part time girls, and I make greeting cards in my spare time. I live in a small town in northern CA, considered rural, but with a population of 13,000. I live in a new subdivision in town, so I'm rural but in a mini suburb, lol. The only thing rustic about my life is my unlandscaped backyard!
I'm interested in living a more green life, less materialistic, and will be living my 'country' life through all the true farm girls here. Hey, I gotta dream, right?

Hi everyone! I have to say that since finding the MJF mag last week and signing up on this site has rekindled my dreams and snapped me out of my funk. My youngest son and I spent three hours in the backyard pulling weeds and enjoying the 75 degree weather we're havin'~~gotta love CA!
I'm so excited to plot out my vege garden for the spring. The best part of the weekend was mucking around in my old shoes and not worrying about the mess. My Farmgirl showed! LOL

Judy - thanks for the weather report. How I know that Central Valley fog. Went to CSUFresno in the '80's. Needless to say I burned a lot of miles up and down hwy 99.

I contacted the email for the Fillmore chapter last year and no one responded. Not sure, but don't think she's doing anything. Would love to have like minded ladies close, but I'll just keep looking and visiting here. of course

Welcome Lesile!
I'm south of you, but I am from Tucson, AZ. Mom did the best she could with a farm there, but it's hard when you got the heat and no shade beating down on everything. Mom actually introduced me to MJ back in August and from there I have been addicted to it. I feel like it's my indulgence in life that I get to have to myself. I have a friend who I have gotten addicted to MJ as well!
Welcome and I'm sure you will have lots of fun here!

Jenn I am waving now, lol Hope you can find your way through this area, its been a bit foggy, and really overcast. I love Ventura Co. There is a farmgirl chapter in Filmore, I have thought about contacting them to see if I can come over had "hang" with them sometimes.

Judy - I love that Tractor Supply. Gonna be there and through your area tomorrow. Headed to Fresno to pick up DD's show lambs. Farmgirl wave as I go by

Leslie - I think you'll find lots of ideas here for being a farmgirl on a small parcel. DD and I have 1/3 acre and raise chicks, rabbits, sheep, have fruit trees, a berry patch, grapevines, veggies, etc. All the stuff a bigger farm would have, just pint-sized. Hence the Username - La Patite Ferme - French for "The Little Farm".

Welcome from down south in Ventura County.

I've lived in Tehama County for three years...yeah, living in the lap of luxury totally ruined me for the country, but slowly I'm embracing the simplicity of it all. I have dreams for this backyard! I want to compost, I want a veggie garden, I want my greeting cards to generate $$, but those dreams are hard to hold on to when hubby says if I lose a day care child, we'll walk away from the house we just bought...
There's so much to do, to change, to reach for...as soon as I read the MJF mag cover to cover, I just knew I found a starting point
!!

Welcome! I live in Bakersfield, over the Grapevine from L.A. I got my first mag 4 months ago at the local Tractor Supply Co. out here in the Rosedale area. I am now back to doing the things I really enjoy doing, its tuff when you get negative remarks from people who hear you talk about doing the ironing, knitting, cooking dinner, growing stuff when possible, etc. Now I can keep in touch with thousands of women who understand the joy of creation. Hope you enjoy!!!

I am just south of you! I have only been here 6 months, so I am still adjusting. Quite a difference coming from Sonoma/Napa counties. I guess we were spoiled living there.....LOL
RuralSuburbia Posted - Jan 08 2009 : 09:48:26 AM
Thanks for the welcome! I'm a Napa Valley girl living in Tehama county (oh how did I get here????) Did you have a big adjustment when you moved to Butte county?
