Hello, Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all of you!

I'm so happy to finally be making my first post. It finally really hit me that I had to stop waiting to fulfill my dreams. I'm a farmgirl at heart that was raised by the most citified mother ever. She's convinced that I've adopted all these "old-fashioned, country ways" just to irritate her. She appears to have forgotten who took care of me while she was at work - her own farmgirl mother

I'm a christian, puerto rican, SAHM, pursuing an MA in nutrition/herbalism, raising 3 beautiful boys with a zillion allergies, married to a brilliant and wonderful younger man who supports all my dreams (after a short time to consider my sanity). I love cooking, reading, gardening, sewing, building, creating stuff, writing, learning, getting involved and history. I've spent alot of time over the years trying to learn old time crafts and techniques.

I'm hoping to build friendships here and gain encouragement for my own dreams which involve lifestyle changes and personal changes that I've been wanting to make for a long time. Since we don't have a farm, I've decided to start learning my homesteading techniques right here in our little urban rental. My main goals are teaching my boys to be self-sufficient, hard working, sustainably thoughtful, christian gentlemen.

We're looking forward to collecting our own chicken and duck eggs, raising meat rabbits and growing all the food we can between our small property and our plot in a community garden. All the while praying that we will find and be able to purchase a livable older home with a large lot. My DH works in a major hospital so he has to be within 30 minutes of the hospital for when he's on-call.

Boy, that was a ramble, but I wanted to take advantage of the quiet time I have now.
Looking forward to meeting lots of great women.

Hi Cyndi, Welcome. You know all those skills you hone while your'e in the city will only make your transition to the country easier, so go for it farmgirl! Oh, BTW, there are so many nooks and crannies to explore on this forum, it will take a while, but boy is it ever fun.

Welcom Cyndi! So nice to have you here. Sound like you are a busy, busy girl!

Have you ever been to the 100 foot diet website? They are a family living off what they produce in the city. Here is their link: http://urbanhomestead.org/journal/2008/01/06/100-foot-diet-challenge-launch/

So nice to meet you-

Hey Cyndi. Welcome from Ga. I am glad to see how you're raising your sons. Makes me have hope for my 4 g-daughters. I'm already praying for their future husbands. Who knows??

So keep dreaming and one day it'll be reality.

Welcome Cyndi! Glad to have you here with us! I too reside in the city and hope someday to have my own little farm. Actually, I already found the place I want...just have to find the money to buy it!
