~~ Hello From the edge of the Albemarle Sound!!

I'm Lauri, and I recently discovered this wonderful group of Farmgirls -- and I'm happy to say that it looks like a Great Group of Strong Women!!

My husband and youngest son live on just over 1 acre, just blocks from the water of the Sound. We have a gazillion flowers in our yard, that we discovered last summer after moving here from "The City" in May!! We have a garden plot all covered in mulch for the Winter (it's sleeping!) and have our woodstove happily warming the cabin for the winter.

I'm a stay-at-home Artist, happily making Collages & Mixed Media work -- my DH is a truck-driver, hauling Everything under the Sun. Our youngest does plenty of chores around the place, but today is working up in the city.

I'm happy to be joining in with everybody!! And I'm tryingto get ready for the Christmas Season!! Ack!! Anybody know what to get for 3 Adult "Boys"??!!

Welcome Lauri! Were not to far from each other! My son was in North Carolina this summer for Boy Scout Camp and my step-brother is stationed there, he's in the Marines. They both say it is beautiful there. I think you will love it here!

Best farm wishes

Hello and wellcome.Congrats on finding a new place to sell your stuff.About boys. When my 26 year old son saw his 2 year old nephews spiderman pj's he asked me why they did not make cool pj's like that in his size. Not what I expected of a man with his own construction buisness! However I made him some out of fleece with spiderman on them. They were a hit and his friends want some.I guess it is a reminder of easyer times..like comfort food.Last year I found a log print and made him more pjs he loves them.Spechial food or goodies are allways a hit. the shaving stuff is allso great.I made a fihing apron with large pockets for the other boys.

Hi Dawn -- yup -- this Christmas Shopping THANG is over-rated...HA! jus' kidding. It is driving my last good nerve out the window, tho --trying to figure out what Adult "Boys" want for the holiday. Jeesh...

I have only sold a couple pieces of my collages -- at a shop up where we used to live, but not any sales since we moved down here in May -- HOWEVAH -- I had a Fabu thing happen on Saturday!! I was at a Craft Sale looking at some handmade purses, bags, quiilts, etc., an' when I stopped at a booth selling these things, I started talking with the woman at the booth. Ends up she's the President of the local Art League/Association!! WHOA!! So -- when I told her I do Mixed Media, she immediately told me to get in touch this week w/the gallery in town, as she wants my work in a showing their having!! How 'bout THAT?!! I'm so jazzed, an' now am feeling like a whirrling dervish, trying to get pieces cleaned up & ready to be juried.

I Do have a Blog -- Lady-Of-The-Tulips.blogspot.com -- I'm trying to get a link for you, but my 11 year old computer is just not behaving itself. Just today I popped some shots of a canvas I've been playing around with -- check it out!!

Thanx for the warm welcome, too!! Right now I'm going to try an' get some lunch & finish a frame with some mellow blue paint!!

~~ Oh Kris -- I know what the Long Haul THANG is -- I used to ride with Tom when he drove for Swift -- but after far too many nites/dayz with 4 hours of sleep, we both decided that enough is ENUF!!

Thanx for the warm welcome -- And yes, the woodstove is work, esp. since the door to it is nearly on the floor. I don' know what the previous owners were thinking when they installed it, but hey, it keeps the house warm. And the elec. bill LOw -- for the 1st time in Years, a heating bill under $120!! Who-Hoo!!

An' now I have to decide which project I need to get finished for today -- got a frame on my work table that needs another coat of blue...got a peasant blouse sitting on the floor needing fabric..an' got a unwrapped frame by the dresser/storage unit waiting for me to Pay Attention to it. Never a Dull Moment!!

Welcome Laurianne. I live in N. Ga. My husband drives a truck. He's all over the country. Works for Heartland. He just left a few hours ago. Is yours long haul, too?

Your cabin sounds so cozy. Lots of work, those wood stoves. But great heat.

Ohhh!! ~~ Thanx ya'll!! Such good suggestions for using the bird, AND -- stuff for the adult "boys" !! They really are boys, even tho they are over 21!!

My oldest is probably the hardest person in the World to get things for --- So the idea of the shaving stuff my just be a winner. He does have a tendancy to need an afternoon shave (that 5:00 shadow) so maybe with a different type of shaving kit, it'll make a difference. The Husband, tho -- he actually looks like Santa Claus, so getting HIM a shaving kit is not the best idea in the world. My middle one is a musician, and I Really don't have a CLUE of what to even look for, let alone BUY for him!! Acckkk...

I got a SUPER deal today, tho -- I had nowhere to store my watercolor papers and supplies, 'cept on my floor of the room I use for a studio -- A neighbor took me to a used furniture place, an' I immediately found an OLD kitchen hutch. With the great price of $115!! WHOA!! Never wrote a check so fast in my Life!! Now my papers and finished projects are all safe, off the floor, And tucked away where our dog can't sit, lay-down, or nibble on them!!

If the christmas shopping were only THAT easy, I'd be a happly lil' girl!!

Welcome Lorianne,
I am with Cindy, I love turkey and dumpling soup yum!
How are you doing on the gifts for the bigger boys? It is hard isnt it? I have 2 that are out of the house.....Since they both have called home this thanksgiving for cooking instructions, I decided to make them aprons and embroider "I dig farmchicks" on them :), I also canned and am making them baskets full of their favorite "mom's cupboard" things, I will add some MaryJane Pantry items as well......Since they are both in the military, we did get them cameras as well, i dont know if that is for them as much as the pictures are for me :), you know.. since I cant travel with them, this way I can see a little of their adventures. Each of the boys have such distinct interrests, as it sounds like yours do, which helps. Oh and hey, queenofquietalot here on the forum sells the most amazing shaving suds for men, the old whisker brush and all... you should check her out.

Happy Hunting!

Hello Lorianne, welcome! I just over a week old on here and I just love it!! I'm sure you will too.

As far as the bird goes, I love to make turkey soup with dumplings. It sure warms the body after coming in from doing chores out in the cold. I usually make my soups very thick like gravy type of consistency. Mmm, I'm getting hungry. Guess now, tomorrow I have to make soup.

~~ Thank you for the warm welcome!! ~~

I was outside earlier, bringing in some firewood for later tonight, and esp. for the morning. We've decided not to use the baseboard heaters that are in the cabin -- the previous owners left them, and the family members who sold the place said they'd offer some $$ for a heating/cooling system. But they paid some of our closing costs, instead, an' so we've decided to heat w/wood with a wonderful woodstove. We had one in S.C. some years ago -- so going out & getting firewood from a good stack that was left here (!!) by the previous owners has been a Godsend!! YAA!!

-- Am wondering if anybody has some different recipies for the leftover bird? -- I've got the idea of chili using the meat, instead of hamburger or pork. Does anyone have another way to use the bird? -- And it Does smell good in the 'fridge when I open the door!! Yumm!!

~~ Thank You for the Warm Welcome!! ~~

I'm deciding what "Attack" I'm going to take on starting my holiday shopping. I have some loose ideas floating around in my head, esp. for my sons..but it makes my head spin!! Mine are 29, 25 & 24 -- oldest drives a work truck -- picking up & delivering resort & hotel linens. Middle one is a musician, but "making a living" working in the hotel/resort business..& youngest is doing odd jobs when they become available.

Think what I'll do in the meantime is go over to my little work table an' mess around with some of my paints. Maybe something will pop up in my head for the holidayz!!
