Hi, my name is Cindy. I met Rene (Prosserfarmgirl) in Coeur d' Alene on Tuesday. I had been to this site a long time ago but didn't save the link. Anyway, Rene was holding a workshop at the MJF store for the wives of the conference-goers my husband was attending. We chatted for a while and I knew this was the place for me. Rene told me I would fit right in, and from what I've been reading since I got home on Wednesday, she was right. I can't tell you how excited I am to be a farmgirl, and by the end of the month I'm going to join the sisterhood too. I live in a small town with only a post office. We are so small we don't even have a stop sign :) . I'm a homeschooling mom, we have a cattle ranch (not big) and I'm a 4-H leader too. That's all I can think of, hope it wasn't too much, I am a talker (or a typer in this case).
I can't wait to meet all of you!

Cindy, thanks fot the info on the cow. I saw a thread on KFC forum where several people milk the Angus cows and love the milk. They were easy milkers, too., and not too big. Didn't give as much butterfat, but that's ok. I may try it anyway, when the time comes. If not, that's fine. I've got my goats.
I tried the Boer and Kiko goats to sell for meat, but the people around here would rather have sheep and lamb. So I went with the dairy goats. Lots more work, though.

Kris, You know to be honest I never thought of "Mother Hen from Peck". I guess it is cute. I'm a mother hen type of personality that's why I chose the name. My husband, whose been raising cattle all his life, said he has heard of Durham Red but doesn't remember anything about them. I asked him if they were a milk cow and he said he didn't think so.
We have goats also, Boer goats, they are meat goats. We currently have 14 but expect when the weather gets at it's worst this winter they will kid. That's usually the way it works around here.
We have 11 chickens also, but only a few are producing. I think they will find their way to the stew pot soon and I'll start getting more in the early spring.
We also have 3 horses and a mule (my husband raised her since she was a foal-currently about 30 yrs old).
There are also 4 cats, and 2 dogs.

Yes, I have 2 calves about 4 months old. Got them when they were just a few hours old. Raised them on all my goat milk. I thought they were Red Angus but someone said the heifer was Durham Red. I am still trying to find out more about this breed. Never heard of them before. If you know, could you give me more info on them? Like are they good to milk, how big do they get, good mothers? Would love to know more.
Also have 6 milk goats. 5 are Lamancha 1 is Nubian. 1 Lamancha buck doing his thing at the moment. I am milking 4 right now. Just dried one up and another miscarried this past spring.
Also various poultry I'm selling off and 4 very fast growing pigs soon to be porkchops. They go Jan. 14!!!
6 cats and 3 dogs, too.
Sorry to be so lengthy. Sounds like you have a lot of cows.

Kris- we have beef cattle, we have a mixed herd, Hereford, Simmental, Charlais, and Angus, but we are going to be switching over to all Angus as we start to weed some out and go buy more Angus. Do you have cattle? or any animals?
