Hi my name is Sheri and I live on a Farmstead in North Eastern Washington. I have a small spinners flock of Shetland Sheep, two dozen chickens and a large garden which is on it's last hurrah. I have ten acres and a house that we built out of logs off of this land plus lumber gleaned from a barn that we tore down out of a farmers field. I have been growing organic vegies and canning them for almost 29 years now and I try to raise as much of the food that we consume as possible. I love to spin (which I am new at), knit, sew - especially heirloom type clothing - and am trying to find a way to market my marquetry art (inlaid wood veneer). I thought it would be fun to expand my horizons by meeting some like-minded gals.

Welcome Sheri, from south of Spokane, down on the Palouse. You will fit right in farmgirl! I spin and want to learn how to weave. If you are interested in heirloom plants and animals check out the Danger of Extinction thread.

Sheri - you are living my dream. We hope to build a Craftsman cottage and have it as Green as possible including a wind turbine and solar. I want to raise Romney for wool and have an Alpaca guard llama. I have never raised anything - offered a home to 3 cats but they can't be "raised" so I hope sheep are easy. Some day I hope to have a hen house and fresh eggs but that's about all I can see me being able to do. I love that you made your house out of logs from your land and reused lumber from an old barn. Recycled barn wood for foors is out of this world expensive and you got it for "free". I may use you as a mentor when I actually get to Selah and have my farm.

A big southern welcome, Sheri, from one of the Louisiana farmgirls. So glad to have you -- and, I'm excited to know there's another spinner on the forum! I'm wanting to learn to spin, and a lady here raises alpacas and llamas and sells her fleece. Now, if I can just get those lessons, maybe I can get busy!

Welcome, Sheri, from N. Ga.

It sounds like you keep busy there. I do wish I could sew. I have knitted and want to do more. I crochet, though.

I also have my great-grandmother's spinning wheel and would love to learn to spin. Wish you were closer!
