Posted - Sep 13 2008 : 10:47:55 AM I'm so excited to find this forum.
I am in the northern California high desert in Janesville, CA. (About 70 miles north of Reno, NV.
I am a new farmer's wife. (6 weeks today. )
My husband is a high school math teacher and I work at a garden center. Small scale vegetable and chicken farming is our night job. We sell at Farmer's Markets and are hoping to begin a CSA next year.
We dream of farming full time someday and becoming mostly self-sufficient.
Looking forward to learning and having fun with women with similar interests.

Posted - Sep 14 2008 : 1:34:57 PM Welcome Rhonda, I hope that you enjoy the forum. And congratulations! I have one feisty rooster and am about to buy some Auracana (sp?) hens. I hope to get to know you and find out more about what you like to do. Having a CSA would be very cool IMHO, Very good luck with that.

Thanks for the welcome.
I do actually know Greg and Karen. They were at our wedding and my husband's family goes to church with them. Small world.
We don't have any animals besides chickens at the moment. But we live on the same property as much of my husband's family, so there are sheep and horses and sometimes a steer or two. Someday we will. :)

Posted - Sep 13 2008 : 6:32:55 PM Welcome Rhonda, and congratulations. Wow, 6 weeks. In Oct. my husband and I will be married 30 years. I can hardly remember the 6 week mark, it was SO long ago. I was born in Trona, Calif. Near Death Valley. So I am officially a Calif. girl but consider my home to be Ga. I do farmer's markets too. I love it. I wanted to do a CSA but would need help then. Do you have animals (besides chickens)? I hope your dream comes true. Take it day by day and start small! You can be self-sufficient. |
