Good morning! Thank you all for a nice welcome. Yes, I do have grown kids. A stepson in Ind. with 2 kids, boy and girl. Also 2 daughter here, one with 3 daughter of her own. The youngest just started kindergarten and is alredy the "bad child" because she's just 5 and has never been to a formal school setting. She's a little country girl who's used to being outside all day swinging from trees and chasing goats and chickens. They use the "color" system and blue is the "best" color with yellow being a warning and red is BAD! Well, the child seems to like yellow and red. She apparently hasn't grasped the fact that she really doesn't need to like those colors. They're bad colors. So she's being punished every day. If anyone has any ideas as to how to get her to want to be a "blue girl" let me know. I would also like to join a farmgirl chapter. I think there's one in Chattanooga which would be close by. Welcome, Kristin. Glad you found us here. I'm sorry to hear that your little granddaughter is having such a hard time. My daughter taught at a day care, and she had the most wonderful perspective- treat every child as an individual. Her explanation to the director was that, because each of them come from different backgrounds, they will not all be "the same", and to expect them to be is a recipe for disaster. So Ainslie watched them, talked to them, and made sure that she planned group activities that would work for each child. She had the best little class, and all of the kids just loved her. (And she's only 19!) I think in the larger, more formal setting of kindergarten, teachers forget that not every child was placed in day care, that they have their own personalities and different learning styles and expect them to come in, sit down and conform. I would say a talk with the teacher is in order so that she and your son can work together to help your granddaughter have a positive experience in her first year of school.

Welcome to the MJ Farmgirl Site. You'll love it here, and you'll get lots of advise. You should post your question of "Across the Fence". I think more farmgirls will see it, and then they'll be giving you all kinds of advise, ideas, etc... The farmgirls are amazing ladies!
