Hi all you lovely farmgirls......
My name is Kate and I have to say I feel like I just arrived home. I've been patiently awaiting my "confirmation" so I could join in on all of the wonderful topics that are broached here daily. I love the familiarity......and down home hospitality that make this such a fun and friendly place to be.
I AM a Farmgirl at HEART.....
I love to garden! There is nothing like the aroma of fresh tilled soil, or the feel of it beneath ones feet. The joy that comes from watching a sprout grow into sustenance....into a bounty, is as pure as it gets. I love sharing my gardens with little ones. Right now it is my cousin Lennon....who is 2 years old and in awe of just about EVERYTHING.
My husband (of soon to be 33 years) John and I just recently moved back to Texas, after 25 wonderful years in Arizona. We bought an older house in the "Historical Azalea/ Brick Street District" of Tyler...and are really digging life in the much, much slooooower lane.
Up to now we have been spending all our time and energy in renovating the interior of our neat, little old house.....so the garden actually got put on the back burner. But I'm happy to say we have tilled and raked and rowed....and have finally done our first planting. Too late for a lot of summer crops....but an awesome start for a fall garden. I visit our local farmers market twice weekly....so I still get to enjoy the bounty. I am ALL for supporting our local farmers......and will not buy produce from anyone except local farmers as long as they are peddling their goods.
Anyhoo.....I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you!!!
What do you think???? I think I'll call our little corner of the world......

Thanks Frannie,
Austin is HOME here in Texas. I grew up a Air Force Brat.....and 3703 Cedar Street was the only consistent address for all my growing up years. That is where my Grandma Murphy lived....and where I lived off and on for many, many years. I still have many ties in Austin, and visit quite frequently. We ended up in the Tyler area when my daddy retired from the Air Force. He chose this area because at the time it was an equal distance between his mama....and my mama's mama. His mama lived in Breaux Bridge , Louisiana...where he grew up. Life has come full circle for Daddy and both of my Grandma's.... So John and I moved back to Texas to be closer to our remaining "old folks". Actually the only one left now is my Mama...as John's daddy passed about 9 months ago.
But anyway..Tyler/East Texas is beautiful, and we are glad we lit here. Thanks for th warm welcome....actually from all you lovely farmgirls. I look forward to many, many hours of chat and friendship.

welcome to maryjane's site, kate and welcome home!
i am also a born texan(austin) and grew up in galveston county and have lived in north texas for over 30 years.(but i still get a yen to be on the gulf coast, i guess ya just never get that salt water out of your veins.)
anyway, i have never lived anywhere but texas and love it, although many of the farmgirls here have shared pics and stories about there parts of the world and i have to say, texas doesnt seem to have the only bit of heaven in the usa. wait till ya see some of the pics that our farmgirl friends post on their little bits of heaven.
anyway, i am so glad you are back home and cant wait to hear more about your "brick street farm".wish all us texas gals were a little closer instead of spread out all over the state.

Holy crow Kate! I LOVE LOVE LOVE the Azalea district...I don't care what part you live on it is just slap dab beautiful!!!!! I have one more year left at UT finishing up my education degree, so I get to be in Tyler 3x a week!!! I love it there, but my DH says Gilmer is the place to be??? We have lived here for 12 years so it must hold something for me, but shhhh...don't tell anyone!

A positive attitude may not solve all your problems, but it will annoy enough people to make it worth the effort~~Albright

Thanks Heather,
We spend quite a bit of time in San Marcos with my hubby's cousin. Guess it doesn't matter where in Texas you are....it's always beautiful. Guess I didn't mention in my introduction that I am a Texan...not just a transplant. Although I sure did fall in love with that Sonoran Desert while living in Arizona.
Thanks for the welcome.

Howdy from one Texas kate to another! You have a wonderful area up there-I am somewhat familiar with that area of Tyler and I think you'll just love it. You'll have to post pics of your house so we can all see. And I think Brick Street Farm is perfect!
I'm so glad you found us-you sound like a real farmgirl to me and I think you're gonna fit in just fine.
