Posted - Jun 10 2008 : 06:28:02 AM Hello everyone, I am a new farmgirl but always have been a farmgirl at heart. We just bought a 10 acre farm in Apison, TN. I am so excited to have horses again. I have many interests including: knitting, sewing, crafting, gardening and a love for lilies. I hope to join in on all of the fun and meet some new friends Kelly |

Posted - Jun 18 2008 : 09:36:33 AM Welcome Kelly! How exciting...I had to give up my acreage after 20 years so now I live vicariously through all you youngin's who are homesteading! I miss it terribly, and especially my horses but there's that little part of me that says I might get another acreage before it's all said and done! Best of luck and I love lillies too....my tigers are all blooming and then some beautiful scented asian lillies came up this year from "God knows where" (literally) and they smell beautiful and scented my whole bedroom with just 2 in a glass! You will love it here...all these gals make you feel right at home! Enjoy your farm.....

Posted - Jun 17 2008 : 08:00:59 AM Welcome Kelly!
Just had to pass on that there is a great article in Hobby Farm Home this issue about the Salsa Sisters from Kentucky. What a great story and i do believe there are recipes! I think you should be able to peek at it at Tractor Supply Co magazine rack and also B&N.
Again, welcome!

Posted - Jun 11 2008 : 04:46:16 AM Thanks for all the replies!! Wow, Apison is a very small town outside of Chattanooga, We are currently building a house and fixed up an old pole barn to house our horses. It turned out really nice, you know the typical barn red with the big sliding doors with the white X on them. I just cleaned a bunch of tack a friend gave me. It turned out nice. And yes, we are only 15 min. from the mall. Even a farmgirl has to shop now and then HAHA! |

Posted - Jun 10 2008 : 9:25:47 PM Hey there Kelly,
We've just sold our house in north Alabama..getting ready to pack it up..my family is from Tennessee (Nashville, Crossville, Knoxville) and is where I've wanted to return to for a dozen years. We're thinking on the Smokies right now but are starting the search from around your area eastward.
You happen to live a hop, skip and a jump to Hamilton Place. That's where we always went shopping since there wasn't much in the tiny town the house is in. Shopped at the Sam's on Lee Highway also.
It's nice to meet you..hope to get to know you better...please visit the Apron Sewalong over in the Stitching and Crafting forum..we'd love to hear from you!
Hugs...

Posted - Jun 10 2008 : 10:08:09 AM Hi Kelly! Welcome to the Farm!
Where is Harrison/Apison? I grew up just outside of Gallatin which is in northern middle TN. Wherever you are I am sure it is beautiful. I don't think you can really go wrong anywhere in Tennessee! Good luck on your gardens!
