Hi, everybody! I am a newbie to MaryJane Farmgirls and I love the whole farmgirl lifestyle (wish I could say I really lived it). Can't wait to start reading all your posts. I am sure they will be inspirational as MaryJane is herself. I really admire people who help the environment, who are dedicated to keeping food wholesome and unaltered by wierd genetic crosses (salmon crossed with corn -- yuck!). I was born in Brooklyn, NY but have spent most of my life at the Jersey Shore.
I am married (18 years) and have two gorgeous kids (ages 11 and 7). I have been an avid flower gardener for some time and have recently installed a veg garden. The veg garden required some work to build. First I had to raise it up off the ground (very wet around here) to improve drainage then I had to fence it in (to keep deer out, who are very numerous in this area). It is pretty sunny in the veg patch so hopefully we will be enjoying some fresh, organic veggies this summer.
Can't wait to meet you all!

Connie, Welcome. Sounds like you had quite a bit of work to do to get your vegetable garden started. I hope it is a success for you. I love to garden. My mom and I froze strawberries yesterday--5 gallon. I didn't grow them--I tried growing strawberries a couple of years, and they are too much work (or I didn't go about it the right way!!!)

Connie,
Welcome and glad that you are here. Your garden sounds quite grand. Playing in the dirt is one of the best activities ever. Ok, just my opinion!!!!lol

Welcome to the farm, Connie. This is a great place with absolutely wonderful, upbeat, helpful and talented women!

Do you have a problem with salt spray where you are?

Hello Connie,

Welcome to the forum. I was in New Jersey, Cape May, in 2001. Have you ever been to Kentucky? I live on a 62 acre farm with horses, cows, ponds, and gardens (flower and vegetable). I can't imagine any other life.
