Posted - Apr 28 2008 : 4:41:33 PM I've been looking at the web site for about a year and finally decided to join in the fun. I have a small farm, about 19 acres, in eastern New Mexico, just a few miles over the Texas border. Born here, grew up here, moved to the Dallas area as a young adult but moved back seven years ago and bought my farm last August for my birthday. I am trying my hand at permaculture and sustainable living. On board with me are four sons, one filly, three dogs, two cats, two turtles, two Guinea fowl and twenty-four chickens. In addition to running the farm I crochet, knit and cook for the crew. |

Posted - Apr 30 2008 : 8:26:13 PM Never been to Kentucky. But my family has also been here for quite a long time. My grandfather homesteaded the place where my parents live in 1908. I would love to be in the Four Corners area, my late husband lived and worked there as a young man. But this is where my roots are and we are very happy being near family and friends.

Posted - Apr 28 2008 : 7:33:40 PM Hello from another Kentucky farmgirl. I have been to New Mexico--April 1-6. Our local Cattlemen's organization takes an agricultural trip each Spring. This year we chose the Four Corners Area. We flew into Aluquerque and drove north to Farmington. We spent 5 days touring the sights and some ranches. We visited the Navajo Indian Reservation known as NAPI. Your country is quite unique. We really enjoyed our time there. I have been associated with a farm all my life. My husband and I bought his grandmother's farm in 1970 and have lived here ever since. I can't think of a better place to be (although everybody thinks that about their space!!!!!!) Hope you enjoy meeting all the other farmgirls.

Posted - Apr 28 2008 : 7:04:07 PM Hello Ruth and welcome!! I have never been to New Mexico although I am interested in visiting that part of our country in time. The farthest west I have been(on land) is St. Louis, Missouri. I have flown to the Mayo Clinic in Minnesota. Have you ever been to Kentucky? I have lived here all my life. My family has lived here since the Revolutionary war when my ancestors acquired land through land grants in exchange for serving in the war. My paternal family has owned the same land for several generations. Needless to say, I have farmgirl DNA.
You will enjoy this site. I think every farm girl in America must read it.
